University of Maryland C/O 2020 Discussion

@tanookimario FYI, Maryland is a public university and is unable to/does not “match” scholarships the way that a private university, such as Syracuse can. When you compare the difference in costs, private universities offer more $ because not only do they have the funding to, but their costs start out higher to begin with.

@Jotaro
I have the same thing. My application was submitted on 1/14/16 and yet I did not receive a decision on the date they posted (I believe it was 3/18). Still waiting on one as my application information page is saying nothing about a decision. I emailed them about this issue yesterday as they do say decisions will be out “by April 1” but I haven’t heard anything back yet. Are there others with this same issue?

@reldern I called the office this morning, and they said they’ll be out early April. Are you also out of state?

@Jotaro Yes, I’m an OOS applicant. Glad to know they confirmed a date. Thanks for calling them!

Have all financial aid packages been released?

@RyanG1207 I don’t know about all FA, but I just got an email from their office confirming that no more undergraduate merit scholarships are coming.

@reldern Decisions should be out, mine is.

It appears that I probably won’t be attending UMD. I was only offered Grants and Loans and did not even receive Work Study. :frowning:

Hello,
If I applied as undecided (priority deadline) and was admitted letters and sciences and instead would like to major in Biology for CMNS, is it possible to request to be admitted as a direct admit to CMNS? For internal transfers, they have these gateway requirements and some of these classes are not taught in College Park Life Science scholars, which I will be in.

Hello all, I’m sure you have all made your decisions…congratulations! I’m curious did UMD offer anyone that is OOS merit money? If not, we will have to remove it from our “to visit” list. Thanks!

@tpcrd66 I know of OOS UMD students that have received merit aid

Yes, UMD does give merit money to OOS applicants. Bear in mind that the amount is not huge like private universities can offer, but they do give merit awards to both IS and OOS students.

Thank you…I know some schools will not give any merit to OOS. My daughter is interested in UMD Business School.

I got in early into the scholars program and will be attending. I am very excited for all the opportunities UMD has to offer

It’s honestly such a good school and for any out of state applicants getting in is a huge accomplishment.
