@studentin2023 -Enrollment in FC does not involve any chances. It is offered to all Spring admits. As far as I know, they take the first 1000 students who enroll, If you enroll in a timely manner, you start in the Fall. That is it.
@lovemycats - Getting into the Honors College, gives you the option to select which of the 7 seven programs you want to join. There is a form that you have to fill out. You should have gotten a link to it. ACES is one of the 7. University Honors is another one of the 7.
Go to http://honors.umd.edu/ for more info
I would also say that MANY of the students in the Honors College do not get any merit awards.
I heard that except for separate rooms and ability to schedule classes in advance, honors doesn’t do much nor any employers care, not even mentioned on transcripts. It’s publuc universities doing little bit of ego boosters
does anyone know if freshman connection students get financial aid? I know I won’t get merit aid, I’m just hoping the fa is decent. Im instate
accepted!
out of state, applied as bio phys&neuro major (LEP), but was accepted letters and sciences with FIRE program.
93 GPA, 33 ACT, many ap’s and honors, ap scholar w honor, seal of biliteracy in French, cultural exchange with school in Toulouse, music, part-time jobs, club leaders, and lots of volunteering/mission trips as extracurriculars
question - if I put an intended pre-professional track on my application but wasn’t admitted to my 1st choice LEP major can I still participate in that pre-professional track or is it contingent to the major?
also, how difficult is it to apply into the major from letters and sciences and get in?
thanks and congrats to everyone!!
Son accepted into Engineering and Scholars. Was really hoping for Honors, but happy to be in Clark School of Engineering. He’s not sure if he should enter Scholars program or not. Any thoughts on that?

WGPA: 4.47 (honors classes are not weighted and AP courses receive one extra quality point)
Took (or enrolled in) a total of 14 AP courses
Rank:2 out of 253

Any entering one of the Scholars Living Learning Communities? Would probably do the Science and Technology one.
Meant to say “Any thoughts on entering one of the Scholars Living Learning Communities?”
From what I can tell, it seems to be worthwhile. There are classes and seminars that are reserved for Scholars only
@Washu2023 - Financial Aid at UMD, and other schools, is just the standard federal student loans. I am not sure when it will be released. My D never took any of the loans offered. Some schools also offer grants. I don’t know if UMD does this. UMD does offer work/study with Financial Aid
does anyone know how/when admitted students can expect to hear about presidential/dean scholarships and the banneker/key?
Hello! I have a question. I was accepted into the University and the Honors College, however, I was given Letters of Science…I do not have time to “decide” my major for a period of time because I have already taken 64 credits of college classes at my high school. I was wondering if there is a way I could change the major I want to Kinesiology/Pre-Therapy? I’ve taken A&P 1&2, General Biology, and will take Microbiology college classes during my last semester in high school. I just want to transfer my credits and finish in at least 2.5 years and move on. If this is not possible, I will just have to go to one of the other Universities I was accepted to. It is my fault since I did not really know what exactly I wanted to do so I put Biological Sciences…which is an LEP. I still want to do Biology but for what I’m doing, Kinesiology could be my next option.
@Sharuto what you want to change it to is not an LEP so you can definitely declare that Major anytime you’d like.
I got into engineering and honors college. OOS, SAT 1580, ACT 36, GPA 5.31 weighted. I did drama, sports, am editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper, and have double legacy.
So excited to be a terp!
@Jackbp You are also OOS like me. Did you decide on UMD also, not your in-state? May I know reason if you will? I am torn in between,
@Sharuto - Contact admissions and ask them what you need to do. It should not be a problem to declare a non-LEP major at this time
@Sharuto - Here is a link for prior learning and AP credit transfer
Decisions were posted on Friday in coalition
We are in freshman connection. DD has a weighted 4.1 and a 1330 SAT.
Does anybody have more information on the Carillon Communities other than the website? Are the living-learning programs (in order from best to lowest) honors, then college park scholars, then carillon?
@cshigh I didn’t want to stay in state so that was never really a consideration for me. I chose UMD over other similar colleges because it was the best of both worlds with its beautiful campus with rolling green hills and its proximity to DC and the amazing professors and engineering department.
UMD is a great school, but you have the tools to succeed wherever you go. If tuition is a concern I would recommend that you wait to hear about scholarships before settling on a college. Congrats on getting in to UMD!
