University of Maryland-College Park Fall 2017 Transfer Discussion

I’m a freshman currently at college of southern maryland with a 3.6 gpa, i turned in two letters of recommendation from my math & bio professors, i had to also turn in HS information - 3.4 weighted gpa, lots of extracurriculars, 20 on ACT, 1510/1460 on SAT…idk what else lol its been a while. but I got denied from College Park last year and decided to stay home for a year & get my life together and try again soooo…fingers crossed.

I applied for fall 2017 and the business school. I’m really nervous that I won’t get into the business school.
GPA at current cc is 3.8, but this spring semester may drop a little. The thing is that you need to complete business gateway courses before they can accept/deny your admission to the business school and I am currently still taking one. This means I will not know my admission to the business school until mid/end of may :frowning: I just want to know sooner because if I don’t get in I need to let other schools soon!

Hi guys! I applied on March 1st as an incoming sophomore from a CC in NY
3.88 college GPA (should stay the same or go up this semester)
3.4 HS GPA
1550 SAT (Old) - terrible, i know
Tons of EC’s (actually joined my CC’s honor society after my application was sent in so I think I am gonna send my updated transcript with it listed on it)
I think I have a pretty good essay, it demonstrates a lot of interest and research
Trying to get my English professor to write a recommendation
Applied for the LEP Government & Politics … probably won’t be admitted to that so I put Philosophy down as my second choice

I was looking at past threads from people applying for Fall 2016 and people with GPAs as low as 3.00-3.03 have been getting accepted with as little as 30 credits so I think everyone in this thread has a pretty good chance. I emailed an admissions counselor and she said the average spring GPA was a 3.4.

Also from reading those threads, decisions have generally come out the 3rd week of April. People have had housing agreements show up on their portal Wednesday of that week and they have gotten official acceptances on Friday at 4:45. So this year the timeline would be between April 12th (Wednesday) then April 14th (Friday).

I really hope I get accepted this Fall. My GPA is good, but my SAT’s were not where I wanted them to be at all.

Did anyone have trouble uploading recommendations? I did, I submitted my application thinking I could have my recommender send it in afterward. They sent it in by Feb. 24th and there is still no sign of my recommendation being received. Anyone else have issues? I’m also not sure if there even is a point to end them now since decisions will be released soon.

My recommender mailed it in and they received it fine. I would email an admissions counselor and ask them to check if it has been recieved

I called and emailed two different admissions representatives, and they both said for my case (My recommenders emailed applymaryland@umd.edu with the letter and my DOB) the letters were received and matched with my profile, even though it says on my application that they were “not received”.

guys why u all try to keep GPA as usual this semester?

TBH I really give up this semester and I took tons of higher level course just for passing them.

Heyy, been eyeing this forum for awhile now also.
Stats: 3.3 gpa, 50 credits completed, will have my last 10 credits done by this semester at my comm. college. Applied as a Studio Arts major.
I’m just as nervous and anxious as everyone else!! :frowning:

bbe267 I am like you, I live in Maryland and I am trying to transfer to UM in the fall. I am also trying to get into the business school. I currently attend an out-of-state university but I miss home, so I decided to go back home. My GPA is 4.0 but I am still nervous on whether or not I may get in. What is your intended business major? Hope results comes out soon!!!

This should be the week

Hey y’all! I’m obviously also applying to UMD and I can’t believe we’re almost there!! I really hope decisions come out this week. Are any of you thinking about applying to transfer into the honors program? I know I definitely should not be thinking about this before even being accepted, but I really like the idea of being in a program that makes the school a bit smaller (even though it seems like we can only transfer into University Honors and none of the other programs) and brings me closer to hopefully like-minded people, especially since it seems like transfer students don’t have a good chance of getting on-campus housing.

Hey guys I’ve been eyeing this forum for a while already and I’m just as excited as you all are! I truly hope this is the week we all get to find out I already got all of my other decisions but this is the only OOS school that I applied too. I know it being OOS gets a little more difficult for me but I am completing my associates degree this year I have a 3.1 GPA and 58 transferable credits.

@tecz77 Yeah I will definitely look into that as I’m in the Honors Program at my current school which is very underwhelming. I know UMD has a very strong Honors Program though so looking forward to thinking about that.

I have just 21 transferable credits, 37 once this semester is over, and a 4.0 GPA. I applied to engineering. Crossing my fingers I get in!

got a word from admission office that 3.5 GPA is GUARANTEE COE

@drjisper
I swear if you’re fucking with me man

@drjisper On a Sunday? Lol
