Hello,

I was accepted to umd for the fall of 2009. I will be a soph. I did request housing but I have heard that there is basically is not a chance of getting to live on campus as a transfer. I was wondering if anybody had any information on what life will be like as a first semester sophomore transfer student. Will it be a difficult to meet new people if I have to live by myself off campus in an apartment, and has anybody heard of any transfers getting housing here?

I’m currently a freshman at UMD and from what I’ve heard no transfers ever get housing unless they’re freshmen who were accepted for the spring term. I’ve met a lot of freshmen from Delaware and Virginia who didn’t get housing and have to commute from their respective states. In fact, a lot of sophomores won’t even get housing next year. What you can always do though is rush for a sorority or a fraternity and then you could live in their house after a semester.

Well I am from central new jersey so commuting from my respective state would not be an option haha. I was planning on rushing a fraternity and living there after a semester. I am just wondering what the heck I am going to do first semester, are there any apartment buildings nearby with one bedroom apartments?

bump, does anybody know any good apartments close to campus?

UMD has an off-campus housing office to help students like you:
