I applied the end of February but some of my paperwork didn’t get there until the first week of March. I have a 3.9 (have taken 60+ credits) at my current maryland cc but I also had to include my transcripts from ten years ago that are terrible and bring the total GPA way way down. I’m hoping grades that old won’t be held against me too much. I did send an optional letter of recommendation, I am a legacy, and my husband works at UM. I’m still waiting and I’m getting pretty nervous. Good luck everyone!

UMD just updated my page saying that they are postponing their decision for me until my spring grades are finalized and sent on an official transcript. Meaning that I won’t get a decision until July or so because my transcript won’t be ready with official grades until around June 10th. This is probably their decision for now because I’m OOS and asking for a lot of financial aid, so they want to see some strong grades. Kinda obnoxious.

Same for me! I’m the “not good enough to get in, not bad enough to be rejected”, I guess. Although I’m OOS and also asking for a lot of financial aid, I never thought that played a major part. I have a 3.1 GPA, for reference.

I’m in the same boat. They’re postponing my decision until they get my semester grades. Obnoxious, but kind of makes sense considering I only have 17 credits. I got a 3.707 last semester, made the deans list, and attend a 4 year institution (towson). My high school grades aren’t great though (3.43 unweighted overall) and I have pretty weak SATs (1620 w/writing). They didn’t say no though, so hopefully if I keep my grades up it will be a yes.

my page was updated today too, rejected
good luck to the rest of you!

My girlfriend received her acceptance today. She has a 3.46 from a Florida four-year Public with more credits than she needs. Also needed significant financial aid.

I got the same message about my decision being postponed until my Spring semester grades are sent. I am OSS and need financial aid, and my GPA overall from high school was 3.8. My college GPA (I’m a freshman transferring as a sophomore) is also currently 3.8, but it’ll go down a bit this semester after taking math hehe I am much more likely to be heading to MSU, but I was hoping to at least have another option if MSU doesn’t give me enough aid.

Same here. Decision postponed until Spring grades are received. Gpa is currently 3.24 from OOS cc. =( I’ve been accepted to other schools, but UMDCP was my first choice. I’m just not sure if I’m willing to risk waiting until July. Seriously, what’s their problem?

Same boat… Got the “wait and see” notification. Coming from Cornell, grades weren’t terrible, but not great first semester… Thought MD was a sure thing though :-/

lol i would love to trade spots with you transfermeoutnow!!!

@Transfermeoutnow - Why do you want to transfer out of Cornell?

hey all i got accepted into university of maryland college park as a junior transfer w/ a 3.6 gpa. i sent my stuff in late feb/early march. i found out about my acceptance first week of april… o and i’m an out of state transfer. hope i can help.

Cheeky4409,
It’s in the middle of nowhere - closest city (other than Syracuse) is about 5 hours away. It’s an incredibly tiny town with nothing interesting going on. Greek life dominates the social scene. It snows from October to April (seriously! first snow - October 15th, most recent snow - Yesterday!) The school doesn’t care very much about its students - six kids killed themselves this year and the president addressed each of the suicides with an IDENTICAL form letter. They nickel and dime you for everything (gym membership isn’t free, neither is INTERNET!!!, parking costs a fortune)… And advisors don’t make any sort of an effort to contact their students - I’ve had 2 academic advisors this year (switched majors) and have yet to meet with either of them. Plus, I’m from DC and miss being in the city and being close to home. If you ask because you’re curious, there it is. But if you’re asking because you’re considering a transfer to Cornell, I have one piece of advice - Don’t.

my friend got rejected from umd (instate) with a 3.29 deans list honors, psi chi. I’m kind of shocked what going on over at umd admissions. She is going to appeal and send new transcript from this semester when its over. she is expecting a 3.6. What do you guys think ?

Peter27 - that’s really weird! Is there anything else that may have made them reject her? Seems like grades, honors, etc. weren’t the deciding factor in her rejection.

honestly I have no clue, I know she had a C in her english 100 class, but the teacher teaching the class has had numerous allegations that she grades ridiculously, has continuously received poor rankings on rate my professor for the past 5 years: [Linda Walsh - Hood College - RateMyProfessors.com](Linda Walsh at Hood College | Rate My Professors). asides from that is her only C grade EVER. And last semester she achieved a 3.5 gpa with an 18 credit course load. She doesn’t need finaid too.

Ok my only guess is that she’s not that “outstanding”. I know that’s really harsh and unfair, because she’s obviously good student and should definitely appeal the decision, but she went from a 3.5 with 18 credits to a 3.29 in one semester. I think they want to see an improvement in gpa, not a drop.

She had a 3.5 first semester, then a 2.9, then a 3.5 last semester with 18 credits, she expects a 3.5/3.6 this semester again. Thank you for your insight and she will appeal the decision.

You can always go to pretty much any CC in MD, and take 15-30 credits while signed up for the UMD 100% guaranteed admissions program at that school. Most people in state who don’t get in first round do that – and all of those slots going to them is probably the reason behind anyone here being denied.

Just a FYI though - Make some good friends before you transfer into UMD, they DO NOT offer any housing to transfer students so you are going to have to find some roomies and split a place off campus.

Anyone else still waiting? I know the website says 4-6 weeks but has that been the experience of other transfers who have already been accepted? I applied regular decision just over six weeks ago.
