University of Maryland, Penn State, or Rutgers?

I have been accepted to Penn State Smeal and the Rutgers NB School of Business. I was also accepted into Maryland but not directly into the business school. What do you think I should pick? I'm in state for Rutgers as well but I'm not sure.

Have visited and researched the schools? If you can attend Penn State without taking on a lot of debt that would be my pick.

Net price at each?

if cost means anything to your family, go with the one with the lowest cost. it’s a business school. you’re probably going to consider grad school later and you don’t want the debt holding you back.

I know for Maryland you are only able to be accepted to their business school after your sophomore year. If not you either have to transfer or pick a new major, so that may be of concern to you. If it is id go with Penn state.

I agree daughter was accepted to Penn and Rutgers. I am hoping she picks PSU. It really is a great school and Smeal is prestigious. The Wall Street Journal recently published an article that Penn State is the top pick for recruiters,

Isky17, that is incorrect. My daughter’s friend was just accepted as incoming freshman directly into the business school at University of Maryland College Park.

Penn State’s not worth the money over Rutgers. Maryland is the best of the three.

thoughts… my daughter was accepted to both PSU - IS and JMU- OOS-both will almost be equal in cost and acceptances into the COB. I’ve read so much on both and on paper PSU is the better choice but she loves JMU-
but has not decided yet… PRO’s / CON’s opinion wanted!

What’s your out of pocket cost BEFORE any loans at each?

Go with Maryland.

I may be biased, however Smeal is the superior business school out of all three of those. However PSU OOS is a huge financial hit.

@MYOS1634 Rutgers is 25k, Maryland is 36k, and PSU is 39k but I still may receive scholarship money. Not sure how much money (if any) I’d get however.

@Etuck24 Can you give specifics on why you think Smeal is superior over Smith (Maryland)?

@reenski I meant that if you didn’t get accepted right of high school.

Don’t make a decision until you have all your financial aid awards in hand.
What are your parents saying? Would you have to take on a loan or can they pay outright ($5,500 for your freshman year)? Once a loan has been deducted, you’d have $19,500/30,500/ 33,500: can they pay that out of ^pocket? If they intend on taking a loan for you, it’s not worth it and stick to the cheapest option.
Smeal is the better business school but you’ll have to work very hard to get in and the extra costs compared to Rutgers are great if you don’t get a scholarship. So it’d only be worth it if you get enough of a scholarship that costs are down to a level that would be acceptable to your parents.

Per USNWR, Maryland is #18 and PSU #22 for undergraduate business. Why spend more money for Penn State? Don’t believe a Rupert Murdock rag like the WSJ. Penn State is NOT #1 Penn (Wharton).
