Essays (rating 1-10, details): Truly believe my essay was great, (not trying to be conceded). I wrote about this music festival I attended that opened my eyes to how large and diverse the world is and how this festival inspired me to have a better mindset. Briefly mentioned my illness history, but also mentioned how now I want to start an organization for children with illness, and tied in music to that goal also.)

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: Business teacher who I had for Computer Inputting Applications (9th grade), and Accounting Honors (11th grade). I have close ties with the business department for my father comes in every year to do a business/accounting presentation. It is also my future major. Received an A final grade in CIA, and a B (4.0 gpa) in Accounting Honors.
Teacher Rec #2: English teacher that I had while on home instruction freshman, sophomore and junior year. Has truly seen my illness progress from the beginning and thoroughly knows my work ethic and circumstances.
Counselor Rec: She seems to like me, and I stressed how important it was that she explained my circumstances from a school perspective (absences, and inability to take AP/Honor’s because the school thought it was too much for me, despite me wanting/smart enough to take them.)
Additional Rec: My pediatrician who I’ve had since I was born, and have visited on a weekly (if not daily) since I got sick. I believe she wrote a short and simple yet great letter.

Interview: N/A

State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: White

Gender: Female

Income Bracket: $200,000+

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None. I had an Uncle who went to Miami but thats about it.

Reflection
My guidance counselor told me to exclude my freshman year grades when considering a school’s GPA, not that a school will not look at them, but they will likely take into consideration my circumstances. As for FSU and Central Florida, I believe my grades are “okay”, and my other components of my application will hopefully even it out. As for Rutgers School of Business New Brunswick, and especially for University of Maryland, and EXCEPTIONALLY for Miami, I believe that my decision will come based on my essay, activities I was able to do and overall circumstances, not my stats. They say some schools will accept someone based on possible potential, so I’m hoping they see I have the work ethic and motivation to succeed. I’m no expert however, hence why I’m asking my chances.

If anyone has any advice on if there is anything else I can do to help increase my chances of admission to any of these above schools (especially Miami) it is greatly appreciated.
