Hello everyone. So i received the news that I got into UM and am obviously really happy and all that and I got a presidential scholarship of 18k but obviously UM is really expensive so i was wondering how much money can i get on a need base? My family makes less than 23k per year. I obviously applied for FAFSA and did the CSS Financial Aid and florida bright futures. How much money would I be able to get then? I qualify for the highest honor from florida bright futures btw which is like 103 per credit hour. Thank you!
Use the online Net Price Calculator at UM’s financial aid web page.
i used that one as well as the one provided on the CSS financial aid website and theyre both giving me totally different princes so I’m not sure???
The one on the University of Miami website should be the more accurate. Use that one.
However, if your parents are divorced, own a business, are self employed, or own real estate other than your primary residence, you may find the NPC NOT accurate.
At this point, is there some urgency to finding out? Assuming you got all of your financial aid materials submitted on time, you should be receiving your actual award from the colleges in a few weeks.
idk i just wanted to find out as soon as possible to make a decision
i applied to out of state schools but im really reconsidering staying at home but if UM ends up being too expensive then I would have to go to a local university that isn’t as good i guess
You don’t have to make a decision where to matriculate until April 30. I’d just relax right now…and try to be patient. Those real offers will be there soon enough. Then you can make a real decision!
For bright futures, you’ll get the 103 per credit, so about $1545/ semester. You’ll also get $3000 per year as a Florida grant for reside to in private schools.
If you qualify for full pell, you’ll get $5700. There is also a Florida low income award and you’ll probably get a few thousand from that.
Did you do the npc for umaimi? Or call the school. Someone might be able to give you a list of what awards are common.
@thumper1 yeah you’re right i should just relax
but whats stressing me out is that i did the npc using the css financial aid profile and i would have to pay like 22k but that doesn’t include my 18k from umiani so thats fine but the npc from the umami website said that time expected to pay 24k and like??? thats even above my parents income so thats impossible @twoinanddone‌
I don’t know the answer to your question…but at some schools, a merit award actually reduces your financial need. So your need based award is less.
Some schools allow stacking of different kinds of financial aid awards. I don’t know if U of Miami stacks awards…or not.
If they do NOT allow stacking of merit and need based awards, it is like,y that your merit award will reduce your need based aid. You would need to contact U of Miami to find out their policy.
But really…it is what it is. I suggest you wait to get all of your actual financial aid awards. Compare them, and then make a matriculation decision.
Right now…its all guessing.
I think you are confused about how FA works. U Miami does NOT meet need. They could charge you the full price. Only colleges that meet need will be able to fully take into consideration your family income.
hey guys so i got my estimated cost of attendance from UM and its 19k which is fine i guess because it doesn’t include florida bright futures and a few other scholarships I applied such as florida resident access grant and the jose marti scholarship but anyway they told me i had received $0.00 from a federal pell grant and thats calculated using FAFSA and FAFSA said that my efc was 000000 so it doesn’t really make sense to me? obviously i know that not everything will be paid for but does it make sense to have a efc of 000000 and still received $0 from a federal pell grant? thank you!
With a 0 EFC you should have something like a $5700 Pell Grant. Call the FA office and ask about why you don’t have it.
