Hey Guys. I think that this board needs a good discussion of the benefits and weaknesses of the Honors Program in Medicine at the University of Miami. It seems like such a great program, and very low-stress.

I will be attending this program this year. Who else is? It would be so great to meet some of you know.

Please feel free to IM me or post your AIM name, mine is DSG791 .

Anyway, I also got in the the program at RPI/AMC. I think that I would rather be in Miami than Albany Medical College, but it does have some prestige. I will be taking Miami over both the RPI program and Cornell University. What do you think of this decision? What sorts of difficult decisions are all of you making?

Anyway, the Miami Program keeps getting lost on this board, I really wanted to keep a conversation up here.

How hard is it to maintain their 3.7 requirement? Whats it take to get 28 MCAT? The students in the program all seemed to love it, and they are all very happy and relaxed there, but maybe that was just a show they put on for us hopefuls.

Please post any and all of your thoughts and concerns regarding this program, and feel free to IM me and talk!

I think I did as well, I fell in love with Miami when I visited and saw the campus. Its really soooo beautiful there, and seems relaxed and fun. Thanks for your advice, anybody else wanna discuss Miami?

Hey coincolectr
I'm in almost the same situation as you, and I'm leaning towards Miami as well- for exactly the same reasons you gave- since it seems so relaxed there and well, its Florida! And after living in Maryland my entire life, I'm ready for a change.
I have to decide b/w Pitt's 8 year and Miami. I really don't like Pitt, but the med school is ranked very high, plus, with Pitt, I wouldn't be bound to attend the med school, but could apply out without losing my spot. I don't think I want to go through the stress of applying to other schools though. In general, I just didn't like Pitt's atmosphere...maybe its just me, I don't know. But its a tough decision for me because I live comparatively close to Pitt, whereas Miami would be too far to travel back and forth from home very frequently, and Pitt is cheaper as well.

So far I'm going with Miami, but I wanted to know what the general opinion/perspective was of its med school. I know you can gain great clinical experience there especially because of its location, but what other aspects are good/bad? Also, in the end, does it really matter where you get your M.D. from? Can't students still place into good residencies from lower-tiered med schools? I hope so. If anyone has comments, please respond. It would be a great help.
