You know SSobick, I'm a big UF supporter too, but I really don't know what you are trying to accomplish with a post like this.

thanks for listing your sources. Where did this come from??? And by the way GO CANES

UF>>>>>>>>Miami

Don't get too excited SSobick, Miami's selectivity has soared and will only continue to do so. It will be as selective, if not more selective than U of Florida within 10 years.

That is because being a private school, University of Miami can tweak their statistics in their favor and don't ahve to rely on in-state quotas.

The two schools have identical SAT score ranges of 1160-350.

"University of Miami v. University of Florida in Selectivity" Just about same.
National # 54 and #47 with SAT score ranges of 1160-1350.

Here is UF's real SAT range for the class of 2006:

Middle 50% of the Class

High School GPA of 3.9 - 4.4
SAT of 1220 - 1390
ACT of 26 - 31

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html

Unless U.S. News has those statistics SSobick, I don't believe a single one of them.

I'll believe it when I see it on U.S. News, not on the school's website.

If you would like to use those numbers, I have the same statistics from the University of Miami.

Typical freshman class profile:
• Number of incoming freshmen: 2,000
• Approximately 83% live on campus
• Approximately 2/3 are in the top 10% of their class
• Approximately half of the new freshmen graduated in the top 5% of their class
• Average weighted GPA: 4.2

Admitted student mid-range SAT scores:
• 25th percentile: 1220
• 75th percentile: 1370

Admitted student mid-range ACT scores:
• 25th percentile: 27
• 75th percentile: 31

http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Ma...reshmanprofile

Based on these statistics, University of Florida is about the same in selectivity as the University of Miami when looking at factors such as GPA, SAT/ACT range and acceptance percentage.

So no, Ssobick, University of Florida is not that much tougher to get into than University of Miami based on gpa, SAT/ACT scores and acceptance percentage. In fact, based on these statistics I have provided, it seems that University of Miami is more selective than University of Florida.

Im just wondering where teh OP got those stats...... 20-50 look really messed up

Those are from U.S. News America's Best College 2007 Edition.

As I have proven, the University of Florida is just not significantly more selective than the University of Miami to the point where the selectivity would make a difference for employers, graduate schools or other career related goals.

The selectivity difference is only 10 spots and the ranking difference is even less at 7 spots.

University of Miami is a school on the rise, without a doubt. It's selectivty has increased every year for the last 5 years.

Once known as "Suntan U" or "Sunshine U" the University of Miami, under the leadership of President Donna Shalala has reduced its acceptance percentage to 46%, received 19,100 applications for a class of just 2,000. Furthermore, the school has risen in rank every year for the last four years, increasing from 66th to its current rank of 54.

It is also one of the 50 most selective insitutions in the United States and getting tougher each year.

Bottom line = UF > UM

UF's 2007 FTIC class is rumored to have a median score of 1320. Up from 1306 for the class of 2006.

It seems like UM's 2007 class isn't even equivalent to UF's 2006 class in terms of the SAT ranges.

SSobick, UF's 2007 FTIC class is rumored......

I don't think I need to say anything more.

You are using a rumor to support your arguement.

Looks like SSobick has to use rumor information with no factual credibility to support his claim that UF is better than UM.

If we use information that is a proven fact, accurate and reliable, UM is pretty much the same as UF in terms of selectivity.

You should stop trying to post all these trivial statistics because we all know that University of Miami and University of Florida are in the same general category.

It doesn't matter if UF is ranked higher or more selective because its higher rank and greater selectivity are so miniscule that they don't make a difference to employers, recruiters, graduate programs or to the general population.

Fact = UM's incoming 2007 class DOES NOT have as good of a SAT range as UF's 2006 class.

What I was saying is that UF's 2007 range is going to be really strong. Granted the number haven't been released yet, but I was just telling everyone what is going on behind the scenes.

The only fact here is, that we don't know what the numbers for University of Florida will be.

Until we know exactly what the numbers are when they are released, keep your mouth shut and go by the evidence that is currently provided.

That would mean that University of Florida is not that much more selective than University of Miami. Based on the factors of gpa and SAT scores, it is not more selective than UM.

When the NEW rankings come out, and IF University of Florida is substantially higher and more slective than University of Miami, THEN you can say whatever.

Bottom line is right now we have no evidence so you are better off if you just stop the trolling because I'm not going to let you put down UM.

This coming from the guy who could not hack it at Penn State, and now feels like it's his mission in life to bash every state university. You need to get off your high horse

tell you what: if you stop bashing UF, then I will totally avoid UM topics
