Hello everyone!

I applied as an early action applicant at the University of Miami but I realized I had done something terribly wrong. What happened was that for early applicants, they did not take the December SATs, I did not know this fact and I took the December SAT and got a better score than I got in the October SAT.

October Score: CR: 530, M: 590, W: 590
December Score: CR: 600, M: 590, W: 610
---- And SAT II for Nov: Spanish with Listening - 780

Now what they do is that they only look at my October SAT and don't even take into consideration the December SAT in which I got such a good score! (At least for me).

I got a 28 Composite on the ACT on October though, the minimum score that UM accepts. But anyway, I don't know if SAT/ACT are the only thing they look at...

Academic GPA: 3.8, Cumulative GPA: 3.4, Weighted GPA: 4.8
I am ranked in the best 10% of the class, I rank 39/421

I went all out on my essay and I described the many hardships I have gone through in my life. Not really hardships but there were many bumps in the road. I came to the United States 5-6 years ago, when I was 12 and did not know any English at all. The first 3-4 years for me were the worst years of my life. Since I live in Miami, everyone speaks Spanish and I didn't really learn that much English in the public school that I was studying middle school in. Long story short, I went to a private school and everything changed, they actually taught me better English and I started to be friends with non Hispanics, something that helped me a lot. When I got to this country and started school, I always had to have a translator kid next to me. In every class, they would assign a student to translate everything the teacher said. I was made fun of and everyone thought I was ignorant and stupid. Also, when I used to live in Venezuela (my country of origin and birth) the political situation was so bad that we had to leave. Thank God my dad got a work VISA and here we are... That is why my Critical Reading scores were so bad on the first SAT, I started to read more and more and accomplished my task!

But anyway, I also applied for a Broadcast Journalism major and now I don't know if because of my essay they would not want to accept me, since I have a few years in the country and they probably think I barely speak English.

A good thing is that I have shown a lot of interest. I called one time and talked to the Admission Officer and I visited the University and talked to an Admission Officer Helper... He was veryyy nice but the thing is that he told me that my SAT CR and M had to be 1280 to be accepted... So I don't even know if that puts me in the rejected zone.

Also, take into consideration that I have been part of many clubs. I do Speed Skating, I have done it for 4 years now - almost 5. I have been a member of Key Club and Photography club for 4 years and I am the Secretary of the Spanish Honor Society, among other clubs and activities such as hosting events and fundraisers and being the MC (Mistress of Ceremonies) of the school! I was also in Journalism for 1 year and I won 3 awards for my cartoons (because I also draw for the school's magazine).

Throughout high school I have gotten As and Bs, no lower grades!

I hope this helps you guys tell me if I have a chance... Because that is really where I want to go. I think that if I had applied as a Regular Applicant maybe I'd have more chance because they'd see the newer SAT scores but... Oh well.

Thanks in advance and sorry for making this so long, I just really want to get in!
