My mom would probably disown me for being interested in UM (We're 'noles through and through), but I've heard that the PoliSci and IR programs are pretty good. Most of the schools on my list for transfer are in either NYC(NYU, Columbia...) or Boston(BU, Tufts..).
I just thought I should consider schools in my area .
What about FIU?
I haven't actually decide on my major-I might double major in the end.

Hey, I'm a student at UM but I don't know anything about their PoliSci program... you might want to try posting your question in the UM forum and hopefully somebody can help you out!

UM has a lot going for it....my son is a student there. If you have questions about different aspects of the school, feel free to post them and I will try and answer.

I've never believed the stats that Miami posts. My school has historically sent a very high proportion of graduates to Miami, and I can say with certainty that the majority have nowhere near those stats.

john - My son's stats were within the range you mention and he applied ED to get in. Most of the kids he knows have higher stats to get a scholarship. They give a lot of scholarships there....most of the kids he knows have a scholarship of some sort. It gets harder to get in every year and is quite competitive.

It's not harder to get in from OOS since Miami is a private school.

Those statistics are not at all inflated. I think that as a student at UMiami (and one that works in the admissions office) I can say this with a high level of certainty.

Anyways, of course people get in with lower stats. That's the nature of the middle 50% range -- 25% had an ACT lower than 28 and another 25% had an ACT score higher than 31.

Some people question U Miami's admission statistics because they choose not to publish their Common Data Set...until they choose to make that data public there will always be some question. Data coming from the admissions office is notoriously unreliable.

Also, I need to mention that political science (now there are two words that never belong in the same sentence....but I digress) is one of FSU's strongest departments, but I assume the OP already knows that.
