GPA: 3.9
ACT: 33
Have a sister who graduated last year.
I’m worried that bc of UMich’s low acceptance rate, I’d be flat out denied.
Thoughts?
You’re going to need to give us a bit more information. Michigan is holistic, so what are your ECs, what kind of high school do you go to, is it competitive, what major are you applying to, what state are you from, ect ect
I go to a pretty competitive high school in NJ.
I will have taken 5 APs after senior year.
AP Physics sophomore year (4 on exam)
APUSH junior year (taking exam next week)
AP Psych, AP Bio, and AP Lang senior year
ECs:
Soccer all 4 years (MVP freshman and junior year, captain junior year)
Lacrosse freshman and sophomore year
Tennis junior and senior year
Competed in NJ Science League - Biology 1 during junior year
Key Club - junior and senior year
Photography Club - junior and senior year, helped start club during junior year
What’s your intended major?
I’m leaning towards mechanical engineering
Ooh, theres the kicker. Michigan is extremely competitive in general, but engineering is cutthroat.
Also, you are out of state which will not help you.
However, your stats are good. Also, the fact that you took AP physics your sophomore year and got a 4 on the exam is awesome, and Michigan will recognize that!
It is definitely worth applying! In my opinion, I think you should apply Early action!!
Best of luck!!
Spend some time carefully weaving in “Why Michigan” into their essay! And visit!
And try EA:). Good luck. Your stats are good enough, so you’ll do your best and see!
What is your ACT math subscore? It should be in the 33-36 range for engineering for OOS. Your composite ACT is a bit below median for OOS. Otherwise you are a solid candidate for COE, You should take SAT II Math II and chem or physics as well to give the admissions office some more data points.
Your essays will make a big difference and you can probably weave stories about your sibling into them.
