University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

I read on the reddit thread from someone who knows someone on the board of admissions said that LSA EA decisions would be emailed out in the late afternoon/evening of Wednesday the 20th. Good luck to everyone. Hopefully at this time on Wednesday a bunch of us will be celebrating our acceptances!

Also, if anybody could chance me that’d be awesome.

Grandparents both received medical degrees from UMich

My “why umich?” essay was about how I was inspired at a young age to become an oncologist partly because of the fact that I was treated for cancer at UMich when I was younger and they correctly diagnosed me and treated me to a point that I could be moved back to my hometown to continue my treatment.

Hope to hear some good news Wednesday night, but I’m still quite doubtful :frowning:

definitely high chances

You sound like a super star to me, but I wouldn’t call myself a credible source, considering I just drank two cups of coffee so I could finish my final paper for my college writing class!

Thanks! Also I’m just writing this because I’m super nervous for wednesday.

Is it true that if stats are too good, Michigan will tend not to grant acceptance thinking it is only intended to be a safety app?

Too nervous to write my RD essays now…

Is it true that Michigan will tend not to accept students with stats that are too good because they are likely safety apps?

Yes, that is very true. At my high school in NYC, everyone who is overqualified most likely wants to go to an Ivy so they will either defer or deny them unless they state that much is their first choice.

I come from a competitive OOS international school in Asia
My GPA is 95.44% (idk what that is in a 4.0 scale) and rank in the top 50% of the class. But I took 9 APs, scored 1560/1600 on SATs and 770, 780, and 800 (out of 800) on three SAT Subject tests
But my stats are similar to the 74 other people who also applied EA there.
In terms of my extracurriculars, I believe they are strong, but you guys be the judge:

Was a member of policy making organization for youth rights in Seoul and Korea (both regional and national)
Was a volunteer tutor for a photography tutoring program for Nepalese Youth
Captain/Leader of a volunteer organization helping children with special needs
President of school photography club for 2 years
Treasurer of school history club for 1 year
Member of varsity swim team for 4 years

I also have 11 awards and honors listed in my resume.

Is there a way I can distinguish myself from the 74 other people? Although in my UMich application it says I’m LSA Undeclared, I wrote about my strong interest in the “organizational studies” major of LSA. It’s a unique major that I’m sure I’m the only one from my school talked about. Could this help make me stand out as a potential applicant? Also, UMich is my 2nd choice school behind my ED school, while to others Michigan is a “safety.”

Thanks for all of your advice! (I already posted about chancing me but I was too nervous so I wanted to know what you guys thought)

same here

Michigan is also one of my top choices (granted, I’m not applying to as many schools as some people) but I have high stats- I never thought that would be seen as a bad thing, but now I’m worried. I really like UMich and Ann Arbor; and while I did apply to one Ivy, I got deferred, probably wouldn’t get enough financial aid to attend even if I somehow got in RD, and besides that I don’t think the “culture” of those elite private schools fits my personality at all.

Long story short, Michigan is by no means a safety for me, so is there any way I could get that point across if I get deferred EA?

Also, I visited the campus a few months ago (I’m a long ways OOS), so would they see that as part of my application/would it help at all?

Hi guys,

I’m sure like many of you, Michigan is by far my first (and frankly only) choice. I check the portal and my email every freaking day waiting to hear… has anyone heard? When do we expect to hear back? I applied 10/9… good luck to all!
Go Blue!

It was exactly a year ago that my daughter was going through what all of you are enduring right now. She is now a happy Freshman in COE at UM. I will just give you this piece of advice that I guarantee to be true. You are going to get accepted at schools that you shouldn’t have been, and you are going to get turned down at schools that you shouldn’t have been. I’ve been through this with three kids now. It happens. I know it is easy to say don’t despair if it doesn’t work out, but trust me when I tell you, it will work out in the end. There isn’t just one solution for all of your dreams. You will find the solution that works for you. I wish all of you the best!

Does anyone know if you hear from your particular major/school with your decision this week? (I applied to Ross and wondering if I’ll find out about that with my admissions decision) Thanks!

Same question as above kind of; do you think there’s a chance they would send nursing school decisions out first since its such a small school?

@boston617781 admission to Ross will only be seen after admission to UMichigan, so as to say that no decisions for Ross this week will be out
Good luck!
I applied to the college of engineering and can’t wait to know the decision!

Wait so is it confirmed for Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday that they will start releasing decisions?
