University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

deferred… but Michigan is my top school!! what can i do to try to make it in for regular decision now?

I received an email saying I was deferred at 7:20 p.m. EST but the portal still does not have a view decision option.

michigan admitted 7 out of the 14 applicants from my school last year. But only one person went. So as far as I know, all applicants from my school this years were deferred and gpa ranges from 3.3 to 4.4 so it’s hard to say that it is because of academics. I guess michigan just really wants high yield rate.

Son deferred via email, no updated portal. 32 act, 3.6 uw, lots of ec, URM, varsity sports, captain, etc, has the 2 February grade things people mentioned

Has anyone who applied to STAMPS at UM heard anything yet? My daughter is working and can’t check right now. I was wonder if decisions from STAMPS were also released today.

Deferred - 35 ACT 4.5 GPA OOS LSA

Wait I was deferred, but I didn’t get an email. Am I the only one that never got an email?

@nobody76 I didn’t get one either

DEFERRED. OOS. Female. American Citizen, complete education in India.
IBDP Predicted score 43/45 - UW GPA 4.0. SAT 1480 [780 Math + 700 English]
Sat 2 Math 2 800, Sat 2 Chemistry 770. TOEFL 106.
With a lot of extra curricular activities.

Seems like higher stats people got deferred. I had a 35 ACT and 4.5 GPA and was deferred. Friend with 34 4.4 deferred. Another friend with 35 4.4 deferred. However, a bunch of people got in with 30-32 ACT and 3.8-4.2 GPA. I guess they don’t think the high stats people actually wanna go there

I didn’t get an email, but I checked the portal.

Deferred OOS
34 ACT
UW GPA: 3.96
W GPA: 4.4ish?
Tons of ECs

Oh well, I just got accepted to Notre Dame REA, which was higher on my list than UMich anyway. Best of luck to everyone who got deferred and congrats to those accepted!

@hyang949 I think it’s true for LSA. I had a 35 ACT and 4.5 W and 4.0 UW and had 11 APs and was deferred. Similar thing with a bunch of high stats people in my school, while some low stats people got in

@nobody76 I didn’t get email either. Only portal update that I am deferred. I have given my stats above. I applied to college of engineering. Congratulations for those who got in. Best wishes for every one.

@jdawg24 Exactly man. I had a 35 and 4.0 UW and 4.5 W

Portal update says as below:
Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Engineering. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2018.

Strong recent grades that are available before mid-February 2018 may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQs about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Nope, never got the email either :slight_smile:

I am a 4th generation and was deferred. For anyone who doesn’t know, Michigan is still obligated to accept the in-state kids first because it’s public. Thats why some of the stats might not make sense. It seems like more than 75% were deferred though, so don’t give up! Finish senior year strong and it could get you admitted.

I got in OOS into CoE w/ 3.89 uw & 34 ACT! Intl as well!
I didn’t get an email yet but portal updated
