University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

You only see those high stat CC applicants posting. It is not a representative sample pool. There are far higher ratio of high stat applicants in this forum than the real appliacnt pool. One cannot draw conclusion from a biased sample pool.

Does anyone know how many kids they accepted this year from early action? Or in previous years?

So what does it mean for me that I was accepted to CoE early with a 1580, 4.0, 14 APs (5s on all that I’ve taken), two 800 subject tests. Does this mean they think I won’t get into any better schools? I love UMich, but should I be happy or sad about my future prospects in the admissions game?

@Collegethrows124 , CoE did not defer many high stats kids. It was LSA and specifically OOS kids

Does anyone know where to send letters of continued interest or whether or not the admissions officers are going to read them?

LOL. Just another nonsense speculation again. Both LSA and CoE defer a bunch of OOS applicants. There are simply too many applicantss, with high stat or not. Over 30,000 were deferred and vast majority are from OOS.

Has anyone who got accepted received their letter of acceptance in the mail?

@Collegethrows124, Do not read too much into it. Each and every school has different set of requirements for the freshman class they want to have. Each college decision is independent from one another, and as hard as it may seem don’t let them get to you.

@billcsho , it is not anymore non sense than speculating that kids with mediocre stats are smarter than the kids with high stats and better fit for the colleges. I agree that there will be some exceptions like may be 5% but not the other way around. But, It is not your fault, the entire country has bought into this so called holistic stupidity. I rest my case.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

I’ll withhold comment on whether there is a case to rest, but I will say that I am assuming that the back-and-forth discussion over the question of Tufts Syndrome and deferral of high stats applicants has now ended, given that all comments are speculative; UMich Admissions has the definitive answer, and they’re not talking. Any conclusions reached by analyzing posts on this site are folly, as the users here are not representative of the larger EA admissions pool. Per the forum rules, College Confidential is not a debate society.

I actually counted the numbers of deferral and admission with scores above mid 50 (35+/1560+). There is absolutely no evidence in showing higher defereal tendency and there is no difference between CoE and LSA. One may feel there are more deferral due to the additional threads solely for deferral. Speculations are fine if there are data support.

http://prntscr.com/ht6i5m I don’t have anything that asks for grades before february, but I got deferred with this: http://prntscr.com/ht6ihq Should I be concerned or not? My UW GPA is a 3.5 right now, with a W of 4.13, but I got 5 A’s with 4 AP’s my first senior semester. How much should this help me?

Your deferral letter does ask for grades. Unless I am reading it wrong!

@jj1999 those are awesome grades! Shows you can handle a tough load. Put it in your letter. Also express great interest in your major area with what UM has to offer. Do some research on the internet. Visit if you can and write about it. If you can’t, don’t worry about it. Your grades are definitely showing an upward trend.

@pandabear68 I meant that there is nothing on my credentials list that has anything to do with midyear grades.

The number-one action you can take to help cement an acceptance after a deferral is to clearly state that you will definitely enroll if accepted. Better still if your guidance counselor calls his/her contact in admissions with this statement.

Does anybody know when financial aid information will be released?

I forgot to answer “How have you learned about University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus only)? List in order of influence.” on my CommonApp for UMich-- will this hurt my chances? I was deferred from COE with good SAT scores, a decent GPA, and great ECs but I know they like to see a lot of demonstrated interest and I don’t know if I can make it out for a visit since my ECs are really demanding and I’m OOS but I really would like to get in.

Does LSA defer a lot of students early action

For those who are in-state and got accepted, have you received the mail from umich yet? How long will it take for them to send it?
