When my child applied EA to UMich last year, all Ross essays were submitted simultaneously with the submission of the Common App.
Call and ask but everything is competitive but worthwhile at Michigan
Curious about portfolio submission for EA. D24 is applying EA for the LSA/Stamps dual degree program. I know that the portfolio has to be submitted by Nov 1 along with the rest of the application (as opposed to many schools that allow another week for portfolio submission), but does anyone know how long it takes to get the slideshow link after submitting the application? I reminded D24 that she’ll need to submit early to accommodate this, but not sure how early she needs to be…hours? days? weeks (in which case she may be out of luck)?
How long does it take for UMICH to get back with the ID after submitting EA application
Most of the universities that we applied sent back in a day except UMICH?
My D submitted app on 10-10 and received it 10-14. Then it took a couple days to download the docs from common app.
It takes a few days longer
If you are talking about the email with the portal info, the app got submitted on 10/13 and we got the email with the portal info on 10/17 I believe.
Chance Me!
And also, what happens to my application after EA (if it doesn’t work out)? It says the application gets put into RD automatically; can I improve my essays or add recent honors before it enters RD?
Out of State (Washington)
Unweighted 4.0 (school doesn’t do weighted nor class rank)
14 APs by end of senior year (CSP, CSA, World, APUSH, Gov, Physics 1 & 2, Lang, Lit, Music, Psych, Calc AB & BC, Stats)
SAT 1570 (eng 780, math 790)
Extracurriculars:
- 2 years Science Olympiad, won a gold at states, currently vice president
- 4 years CS Club, silver rank USACO
- 2 years Robotics Club, currently vice president
- ~2 months math tutor
- >8 years piano, hobbyist
- ~4 years baking, hobbyist
Applying to Computer Science (not sure LSA or CoE).
My extracurriculars don’t look too good but I’m hoping class rigor will offset that. Do you know whether UMich cares about the AP scores?
This should answer your questions. Look at selection process. Apply | University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions
So your a strong candidate but with close to 90,000 others and lots of strong candidates… It’s usually a reach. Definitely apply EA.
If you don’t get in most go right into RD. Then you are no longer an EA candidate. You sorta start over in RD and could find out around Mid April. May 1st is the national decision day.
Your Ecs are fine.
Good luck.

Do you have an opinion on what my chances might be/need anymore details?
Thanks so much.
The unweighted GPA is low for Michigan honestly. Use it as a far reach school. Ace out with your senior year with APs and that will impress them. Unweighted avg GPA is 3.9 with 32-35 Act
InState. Unweighted GPA 4.0. SAT-1320. Took 12 APs out of total 14 that school offers. Also taking 5 dual enrollment courses. Applying to “biology” major in LSA. Last year roughly 15 from my school enrolled to Umich.
Chance Me. Do I apply with SAT or without.
Michigan looks at Unweighted only. 15 enrolled but do you know how many got accepted? That will help to see if your a target school.
Don’t send Sat.
During Umich orientation at my high school, I was told 15 students joined Umich last year. Out of roughly 225 high school seniors, only roughly 40 or 50 apply. If 15 enrolled out of 50, its 30%. My SAT score is surely in top 10 students in my school (though I don’t have complete knowledge of all SAT scores of all the students). Mean SAT score of my school on MISchooldata.or is 910. I am confused if I should apply with SAT or without.
Its tough to know how many accepted. I only know 1 person who choose to accept Duke instead. If I have to guess, roughly 40 or 50 applied, 17 got accepted, 15 enrolled.
Your school /counsler would know about that and what scores to send to Michigan. If the mean is 910 then your correct since your way above the mean but low for Michigan. This is a great example of being compared to your school and not others. Does your school use naviance or the like that I see the scores of those accepted before you? They also might defer and have you send in Mid term grades.
The slideroom information is in the Common App under the Portfolio tab. My DS24 applied and he did not have to wait after submitting EA application. Hope this helps.
Thank you!! That is very helpful, and hopefully D24 has figured that out too. Trying my hardest not to hover (from afar)!
Something to note if you are applying computer science at Michigan, if accepted you will get admitted into your college you applied to. Then Michigan Admissions will send your application to CS department to be considered as a CS major.
