Hello. I have a 4.074 weighted (4.0 unweighted) GPA, a 27 on my ACT, 30+ hours of community service, and memberships in the National Honor Society, Student Council (where I'm the class president), a Superintendent Board, and Drama Club.

I'm just wondering what my chances of being accepted to U of M are? I don't want to waste $65 lol.

I’d say if you applied EA you would have gotten deferred. My RD prediction for you is a rejection. You WGPA, ACT, and EC’s are not too spectacular.

At the end of the day nobody can 100% predict your chances. You have a much better chance applying vs not applying at all.

I don’t know if the admissions people take this into consideration, but other people in my school with a lower ACT score and less extracurricular activities got in, and we’re from a small town that only offers 4 AP classes, 3 of which that I’ve taken.

It’s hard when you’re up against applicants from bigger, better schools :/

Are you in state or OOS? Your stats look competitive for in-state although not a slam dunk given ACT, but UM is a reach if OOS. If you want to go to school in Michigan/Midwest, you might also consider MSU, Purdue (if engineering), and Kalamazoo (good LAC).

I am in-state, so that does help. I know my ACT isn’t the best; I’m not a very good standardized test taker /: haha

But are the rest of my credentials at all acceptable for some of Michigan’s top schools? I’ve already been accepted to Oakland and Grand Valley, but i know they’re not as prestigious as others.

I’d apply if I were you. You are only lacking in the Standardized testing area. Your ECs, and GPA are not too bad. I am sure not all of the 25,000 or so undergrads at Umich have an exemplary list of ECs. Your ACT is weak, even for in-state standards, but it isn’t low enough to disqualify you.

I’m applying to Umich too, and my application is weak in ECs but hopefully I will be accepted.

Yeah, that’s just it; there are so many different areas that you either could hit or miss.

I have more ECs and awards as well, such as acceptance into the Who’s Who of America for mathematics, winning writing contests, being awarded the Gypsy Robe for theatre (which is like an award for overall acting and character excellence), quiz bowl captain for 2 years, softball for 1,bowling for 2, a steady job at my family’s farm, and various other church and school related volunteer groups.

Do you think that and a killer essay could make up for my stupid ACT score?
