University of Michigan Class of 2023 Deferred/Accepted Applicants

Hello fellow Ann Arbor Crew,

Through looking at this forum, I have come across the hypothesis that if you send in your EA application close to the deadline of November 1st, then the application isn’t looked at and is automatically deferred. I want to know if this hypothesis holds any water. If you or your child submitted their EA application within a week of Michigan’s November 1st deadline, please post a reply with when you submitted your EA application, whether you were accepted/deferred, and your decision if you had heard back yet. Add any additional details you see fit.

Thanks!

Submitted a few hours before the deadline. Accepted OOS.

Nope, not true. Parent of 2022 EA acceptance, whose app was submitted on 10/31. Plenty of apps are submitted at the deadline and are accepted. Someone floats this hypothesis every year.

Someone also always floats the hypothesis that UMich isn’t able to review every EA app, so they defer those they’re not able to review. UMich has the ability to review 40,000 EA apps between 11/1 to roughly 12/20. UMich has the 8th largest endowment in the US, they’re not hurting for money to properly staff their admissions dept.

Anyone else get an email just now? I just got accepted, if you want to see my stats to boost your confidence, I have a thread on my profile (chance me). Good luck!!

People are getting accepted today as well… Which is great.

EA App submitted 10/30, my son was deferred. He is OOS, ACT 35, GPA 4.54, 5 APs and was accepted to Purdue Honors College and was a Park Scholar semifinalist at NC State. He is still waiting for U of M.
