University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2019

Hi all, is it better to mail or email your letter of continued interest?

Email

Wow, I am beyond scared now. Some of these deferrals have very good credentials. I turned my application in Dec. 5 and I have yet to hear back from them. I have a 3.9 GPA and 33 ACT but it doesn’t seem like that matters much to the admissions officers for some of these deferrals haha. I basically have a full-ride scholarship lined up but that wouldn’t mean much if I don’t get in!

DEFERRED.

What’s up with that??

wait how are you deferred o.O i don’t get it … you definitely deserve UofM

Something to keep in mind too is that luck plays a part in admissions. It isn’t too big of a part, but it’s still there. I mean, I can assume something like my essays or grades led to an acceptance, but my admissions counselor could have just been in a good mood, I really don’t know. It’s not a definite science, and maybe a little luck is all that’s needed to swing your decision. Good luck to everyone reapplying, hope you all get in!

I got deferred from the CoE, but it is my dream to go to U of M. I heard that you can switch your application to LSA after the deferral. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROCESS?

@JTrombs‌ I do not think that switching schools after deferral will do good since they may suspect ur abrupt reason of change. It might be even lower ur possibility since it seems pretty obvious that you intentionally change ur application since you think it is easier to be accepted in LSA.

not sure if anyone on here mentioned already but i looked at the UM RD Class of 2018 thread (last year’s worrisome UM applicants) and many decisions were released as early as Jan.20, where i also read the year before had been released Jan. 19. Expect some of the decisions to be released around them, but most likely a little later, due to the higher amount of applications this year (evident by the later EA release dates for this class).

i saw that most of the earlier-released ones were mostly deferred EA students, but there were a few that had staggered well into mid-april, so im not guaranteeing you’ll get your decision before all the applicants that originally applied RD. Usually RD is just for space-filling, so most likely the more well-qualified students that have shown considerable to great interest in the school will get their decisions first, which usually are the differed EA kids because most of the EA students have better stats than the RD kids.

If you havent’t already seen this yet (researched the heck out of the school literally clicking on/reading 99% of the websites that mentioned them both academic and non-academic stuff), i think it will help see some of your chances at admission. It’s stats from Class of 2018’s pool saying how many people from which states and international were accepted, how many applications, how many total accepted freshman, etc.

Hope this helped, fellow UMich applicants! I applied RD (in-state first generation) and hope to see you next year!

@umichmaybe Were just acceptances released that early? No rejections?

@HumNation‌
just acceptances from what i read and were reciprocal from rejection or waitlist notifications; big waves starting late january and staggered with minimal acceptances by april, so by late feb., if not already received,theres a 50/50 chance.

here’s 2 from last year:

Seems like we will know it pretty soon. Hope everyone has a good result!
