@Foreverindia I’m from New Jersey and I heard back a day after sending mine.
What did your counselor say? Also, how did you find the contact info for your counselor?
@Foreverindia I found it here http://admissions.umich.edu/contact-us
And she simply said my interest would be noted. I’m pretty sure the reply was automated. Here’s exactly what was stated below:
HumNation,
Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Michigan please be assured that it will be noted in my evaluation of your application and I will use this to continue to advocate for your admission.
The University received a record breaking 27,000 early action applications this year, so admission was very competitive and we were not able to admit all of the academically excellent students who applied. At the University of Michigan we use a holistic and comprehensive review process that looks beyond a student’s GPA and test score. We are also assessing their curriculum, extra-curricular involvement, leadership & awards, personal characteristics, and essays. Additionally, we gauge the level of interest the applicant demonstrates in the University, as well as their fit within our campus community.
Before we can make a final decision on your application we need to further evaluate the strength of the regular decision applicants, as well as the yield rate of our admitted students to determine if we have space for you in the freshman class. Please submit your mid-year grades when they become available so they can be considered, but other than that there is nothing further we need from you at this time. As stated in your deferral letter, we will have a final admissions decision for you in early April.
Again, admission to the University of Michigan is the most competitive it has ever been this year, so although you are still a very strong candidate for consideration, I would encourage you to keep the University of Michigan as an option, but also explore the other opportunities available to you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Also, one last question, in your deferral letter, did they specifically ask you to send your mid-year grades, or did you get the one that said “Strong fall semester grades will help…”
@Foreverindia “Strong fall semester grades will help…”
Thanks!
Didn’t the “strong fall semester grades will help letter say " by April” which seemed a little different than " in April". Does anyone know if this form response is exactly the same as prior years? I’m very curious as to whether this year is different than others in this regard given the reduction in EA admittance
@Jara123, the deferral letter said “All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2015.”, meaning the university guarantees that all applicants will get a decision by April. However, according to last year’s thread, decisions for deferred applicants have been released as early as late January.
I am international and actually have sent and replied back about four to five letters with admission counselor. Most of them all are the questions that I have had since I submitted my app. I also got the mail saying we are pleased…stuff
I emailed my admissions counselor too and I didn’t get just a generic response. It was very personalized and helpful. Also, when do we start hearing back about being accepted or not??
Almost immediately after the deferral, My D emailed her Admissions Rep stating her continued interest and never rec’d a response. Should we be concerned? Did everyone get responses? We live in MA so our Rep is for Eastern MA.
I also sent mine early this week… I am from IL so I am guessing the volume of emails and applications is high… anyone hear back from IL?
@bsalum, I have the same territory counselor and I didn’t get a reply yet.
How many counselors does Michigan has? I know there are several
I’m from NJ and we only have one Mich. admission counselor for the whole state hence why the response may seem automated.
I sent one to the Illinois counselor on Dec. 26 and haven’t gotten a reply yet.
Don’t expect any response if you send e-mail over the break. The school officially resumed only yesterday.
a friend on this sight said that before winter break his counselor received a letter saying that they deferred pretty much all highly qualified applicants, therefore putting them in the RD pool. my guess is is that they defer you guys to pick out the ones who truely want to go there (seeing who expresses continued interest via email to regional counselor). since most of you guys are Ivy material, they assume you’ll pick an Ivy over them, and theyre only interested in students that they can almost guarantee will apply after acceptance without question.
also i emailed my regional counselor this morning (kent county, michigan) and she got back to me a like 40 minutes after i sent it
When are we going to hear back from them? Maybe late this month?
