University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

This is a thread regarding all of those (including myself), who have been deferred from the University of Michigan.

A couple of thoughts:
I'm actually fairly happy, I didn't get rejected, and due to recent developments, I have a much bigger chance of getting in now than I did when I applied.

So, vent your thoughts, and let's help each other.

GO BLUE!!!

Sorry to hear about it! Still waiting for my decision, but I think I’ll be here too. Did you post your stats/

Here are my core stats:
3.2 UW GPA
3.9 W GPA
30 ACT
1870 SAT (took this last Feb, so should I retake?)
Phenomenal Essay’s
Out-of-state
Half-Swedish (Speak it too) & Traveled the world
My biggest weakness is lack of EC’s.

Also, I’ve so far been accepted Michigan State and Florida State.

Interesting. I’m not an expert, but I think your test scores are lower for an OOS student, and your GPA is too (they dont take weighted GPA). Good luck for the RD round!

I would say retake the easier one one more time, since you have a shot an increasing the second time (especially since you’re familiar)

Here are my stats:
(I applied to school of Nursing so I’m not sure it that matters)
GPA: 3.85
ACT: 26 but just re-took
3 years varsity gymnastics and I’m captain this year, 220 service hours, I play piano, multiple clubs, great essays and rec letter
last semester of junior year I got a 4.24 so and I have not received a B since sophomore year.

I’m feeling hopeful everyone! Our dream is still alive!

Umich doesnt reject on early applicants.

They are (except for ACT).

But…I have a very upward trend in my grades.

Hopefully this will help me cause.

@mpgh000 Yeah they do, but you have to be under-qualified to be rejected.

Are we CERTAIN they do not reject EA?

Ok…just got he hatchet! Deferred! Crap! This will screw me.

They do reject EA, but only a very very very very very small amount.

At least it’s not a rejection, but now we have to wait…again!

It looks like the in-state kids have lower stats than the OOS kids who are getting deferred. I knew UVa and UNC were famous for the differentiation but I didn’t realize UM gave a big edge to Michigan high school students. So… regarding being deferred, I assume we submit first semester senior year grades, right? And we could take another ACT or SAT??? Is there really time for that? Does Michigan really look at everything again?

The problem is I need to make a decision or risk housing and other issues at other schools. April 1 is too far off!

Are you guys submitting fall semester grades now or after break?

I have to wait until after break to submit grades, but as soon as school opens up again, I’m submitting them.

Also, chances are that we’ll find out prior to April 1st. Someone even suggested late-January. But, they’ll only send out acceptances prior to April.

Stats:
UW GPA: 3.6 (W:3.98)
ACT: 26
Michigan resident
3 year varsity soccer.
National Honors Society (2 years)
Student Council (1 year)
100+ community service hours
Buddies Program (Helping students with autism)
Robotics
Marathon runner
Theater
Advanced choir
I had good essays and decent rec letter.

I’m crushed. I was really looking forward to an acceptance but now I have to wait until April and I’m not too hopeful…

Deferred. 3.5 GPA 35 ACT
Very good EC’s with some leadership. Very good essays. Don’t know about the recommendations. April is a very long time to wait but we do need to think about the other options.

GoodGuy96, sorry to hear!
What kind of school do you attend? What region?

We have almost identical stats. I haven’t received my decision, but I know I will be deferred.
