University of Michigan Deferred Applicants Class of 2022

@skieurope I’m not international. I just come from a bottom-of-the-pile public school in Minnesota. Does that change things?

No. Although then it becomes even more shocking that the GC does not know how to upload a transcript, since you can’t be the first college-bound student at this school. But bottom line - that’s his responsibility. If he does not recognize that, your parent(s) can certainly point that out to the school administration.

@skieurope Okay, thank you so much for your help! I feel bad for my GC because he’s not used to dealing with the types of schools I’m applying to. Most kids from my high school don’t go to college, or go to a small in-state school. The minority (the “smart” kids) typically attend the University of Minnesota, if they get in. The best school anyone has attended for generations has been UW-Madison, which is a great school, but it’s no UMich. Would it work if I told him to upload my grades to the Common App?

@Bella2018 My S’s GC uploaded the mid-term report and transcript through Common app and Michigan download and have marked the app that they have received it. That should be the way.

@csekar15 Thank you! That’s really helpful!

Can someone give chance me for acceptance, and when I could be accepted

Asian Indian Male LSA
3.5 UW 4.1W (super rigorous schedule at top high school in Michigan is pipeline for umich (70% of people who applied got in)(my grades dipped 10/11 due to family matter)

34 ACT 770 Math 2

Sister goes to Umich and Uncle works there
Tons of EC’s-nonprofit business, 500 volunteer hours( hospital, building houses, teaching kids in india English), leadership positions in 3 clubs, 2 sports athlete, research at university
However, my senior year grades aren’t looking too great:
AP Chem- B or C(up in the air)
BC Calc- B
Orgo- A or B(up in the air)
Spanish 5- A
TOK- A
AP Gov- A

Bella2018. Your gc’s incompetence should not impede this. If they told you they don’t know how then go to your principal and get help. Where you apply to shouldn’t make a difference. It is the same procedure usually though common app or I think naviance for all schools. Don’t worry about where or if others apply to college. Good luck

@Knowsstuff Thank you for your advice! Unfortunately, my principal is even less competent than my GC. He actually sent out an email to the entire senior class telling us that we didn’t need to send ACT scores directly from the testing agency, because they were included on our transcripts. Luckily, I already knew that this was wrong from checking the websites of the schools I applied to, but I know a lot of people who were screwed over by this. I emailed admin and even talked to my GC in person, telling him to send out a corrected email with the right information, and he promised to but never did. I am so fed up with my high school. It’s hard to be proud of where you come from when you’re constantly let down by the people who are supposed to be able to help you. :frowning:

I’m a deferred student who was not required to send in mid-year grades. Three days ago, my grades were submitted anyway, and according to CommonApp, Michigan downloaded them two days ago. Yet, I can’t find where to confirm this on Wolverine Access. I really want those grades to be considered in RD. Does anyone know where I can see if they were correctly submitted?

@Ochillith In Wolverine access, under “View Credentials”, see the date for “High school transcript”. It used to read a November 2017 date. Now, it reads a 2018 date.

Bella2018… I am really sorry you have to go through this. This could of been your essay! This is really unreal. Just keep at it and I am sure you will end up somewhere great. Your determination is inspirational.

If my mid-year report and transcript does not come out until the end of Jan would that affect me? Also, I am not required to send in grades.

So can I just send my grades via parchment? Or is that not right?

Thanks a ton @csekar15 I hadn’t even noticed that. So why is there an extra line under “tests?” Or is it just me?

Also, in years past, have those students who submitted mid-year transcripts the fastest been given a shorter wait time in RD? I currently have an ED agreement sitting out there at another school in case Michigan doesn’t work out and would love nothing more than to withdraw it.

Ochillith didn’t you, your parents and your school counselor sign an Ed agreement? https://professionals.collegeboard.org/guidance/applications/early

There is generally a deadline connected to an ED offer so there may not be an opportunity to wait and see without declining the ED offer.

ED is binding. You cannot decline the offer because you get into another school. You and your GC sign an "agreement ".

The only thing one may wait and see with an ED offer is whether the financial aid is sufficient from that school. You are not supposed to wait for other schools before you decide on the acceptance or withdrawal of the ED school.

I actually visited campus and met with my admissions counselor and she strongly recommended a LOCI. Take of it what you will.
