@EthanAz1 Since they moved most of the seats to freshmen pre-admission last year, applying to Ross as a sophomore now is much much more difficult. Also, those reject in pre-admission may be not be able to apply for transfer in sophomore under the current policy.
There should be a link to Q&A about deferral on the bottom of the letter. According to the info there UM will update info on common app. Good luck.
So I called the admissions department and was told that deferred EA applicants that are admitted are eligible for merit aid. If anyone else would like to call maybe we can all put our minds at ease.
According to the LSA scholarship website, EA admitted students by 12/24 would be given the primary consideration for the 100 or so LSA scholarships. So it does not rule out the possibility of EA deferred applicants in receiving scholarship. The award notice are sent between now and mid April. There are also redistribution of declined offers later. I know someone received the award notice in mid summer some years ago.
So decisions come out in Feb for deferred students?
@tomandjerry Deferred from EA is considered RD. The first batch of RD admission should come out around mid Feb regardless of they have been previously deferred or not.
It’s very frustrating that there are so many conflicting answers regarding the question of sending a LOCI.
After reading the deferral at least 50 times and speaking with counselor at school, we all decided it was best to follow the admissions wording as “literal,” ie “We are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.”
So, 7th Semester grades sent, no LOCI, and just hope that was the right decision.
@BearGirl92 You are overthinking this. Admissions does not want to be deluged with additional tomes/essays, additional letters of recommendation or bothersome calls. But a local regional admissions representative for the area where your high school is located would certainly appreciate knowing which of the high-stat well qualified applicants from his or her territory is really interested in attending. (I don’t know your stats but assuming they are strong). If you would attend if admitted then you should send a short note–Just say you sent your mid year grades and that Michigan remains your top choice and you would attend if admitted (but ONLY if you really mean it, otherwise it could hurt other applicants from your high school in the future). It can only help. Somethimes that extra effort can make the difference in getting admitted or not.
I was not asked to submit my mid-year grades. My grades will not come out until the end of Feb. Would this affect my chances of getting in during the mid-feb round? I was deferred.
@confused6789 Did you send a LOCI? If not, I think that would be worth mentioning and explaining in a short email, along with any updates.
I sent my transcript with senior year grades through Parchment, and it shows up as “download confirmed” there, but it is not showing up on Wolverine Access. Did it not link to my account? Should I be worried?
besides mid february, does anyone know the ballpark dates for other RD/Deferred EA decisions? Also, what are the previous year’s trends for decision dates?
thanks!
Any time between mid Feb and mid April. It is not on a fixed date and will have multiple announcements.
@helppleasepharm I submitted a LOCI and told them they my transcripts will be sent when available.
You should be fine then. As long as they know that you want to follow through with their transcript request and are still interested, I do not think the delay will be a problem
I’ve considering sending a LOCI, and I think I might send it sometime this week. Does anyone else think it would still be okay to send it this close to the regular decision deadline? I’m a little conflicted because the letter did say not to send anything besides 7th semester grades, but I know a lot of people who also sent one anyways. Also, does anyone know if decisions will be rolling from now on? I really don’t want to have to wait until April to make my college decision!
@tripgirl it’s not like it’s going to hurt your application to show interest above and beyond what you’ve already done, and a LOCI can just be a simple paragraph. You may as well fire it to U of M.
has anyone been denied from U of M or do they only accept and defer? I have heard of no one being denied. Just curious - I was deferred from LSA
I was very curious about that too. I recall someone saying people were denied but I know applicants with <26 act and really few extracurriculars who were deferred and it feels contradictory
I’m not sure if this is true, but I know a girl who claims she has not yet heard from umich and that she was going to call them about her decision in early January but never has. I can’t help but think she was denied because I can’t imagine umich losing her decision, and I think she would have said if she was deferred. I think they do deny people, and I’ve read that people have been denied ea in previous years
