@joe031727 I’m curious as well. Does anyone on the thread know if we could get decisions starting next friday?
http://prntscr.com/i67btr I got deferred from UMich, and they said to submit my grades, but there is no option to do that here…
To those wondering when we might receive a decision- My college counselor spoke with the regional admissions director for the Southeast who said that deferred decisions are coming out in two waves, a wave in mid-late February and a wave in March.
I’m gonna send a LOCI tomorrow bc my grades were just updated recently
@jrsnoles99 are those two waves for everyone (including OOS international) or just for the southeast?
There is no specific admission release for “deferred” applicants. They are all considered RD and will be evaluated with other RD. If you are talking about 2 waves, each wave would last a few weeks. The mid Feb one would include early RD submission and EA defer but only admitted students will receive. The second wave would include all applicants submitted by the RD deadline and not admitted yet (which also include EA deferral). The waitlist and rejection usually come in the later rounds.
Could someone answer my question above?
@jj1999 You send an updated transcript / school report through common app or whatever method you used for your initial application. Once the school downloads it, they will update the date on the screen that you have shown.
How long does it usually take for umich to download it? I sent my grades on Thursday and they still haven’t downloaded it
@EthanAZ1 In our case, it was downloaded the next day. I would give it another day to see what happens, they probably will download on Monday and update the portal on Tuesday
my school sends a lot of people to umich each year even though we are oos. however, this year out of the 50ish people who applied to umich early action, only one got in, everyone else was deferred. People who later got into UChicago etc or had 4.7s with a 1590 got deferred. Our theory is that umich didn’t finish reading all the ea apps so they just deferred all the people they didn’t read yet. What do you think?
@HolyCheeseballs my guidance counselor said similar things to me when discussing my deferred status. i’m in-state and my school is a feeder to UofM. last year, 250 students applied and 150 were accepted. usually, around half of them are accepted through EA, however, only around 30 kids were accepted through EA this year. this proves our theory that they were not able to get through all the EA application on time…or that they are even more competitive this year. point being, even a feeder school like mine had a much lower acceptance rate through EA.
@HolyCheeseballs @jamesrider When they had that problem a few years ago, there were continual announcement in January as they have to finish their task. This is not the case this year. There is no sign of having problem in reviewing the near 40,000 EA application. It is certainly more competitive this year. Since a few years ago, they have been admitting less in the EA round. From unofficial channel, they actually admitted slightly more this year.
Perhaps they are tightening up on their early yield to open up people who apply later in RD.
The problem with all this early decision / action stuff is everything seems to get pushed up. Kid has two real good offers already, so why wait for mich and others? Time for them to get cracking imo.
@yourmomma If that is an ED offer, for sure there is nothing to wait for as long as it is affordable. If it is just EA, one may still want to wait for the FA package from all schools for the decision unless money is not a consideration at all for you or no financial aid is expected. The decision date is May 1. Obviously, if one can make the decision without knowing the outcome from other schools, there is no reason to wait.
I agree that waiting for EA deferral decisions is frustrating for the students (and parents!) Makes it hard for the student to get excited for great offers they already have. I understand that UM has no obligation to get back to us quickly, but you would feel differently if it was your student that got deferred and you were the ones in limbo.
Any chance decisions will start popping out this week?
I do understand the frustration of long wait. My D2 also has several RD school pending. Keep in mind that if one is not accepted in EA, it would be like applying to RD again. Just treat it as an application to another school for RD. The EA process has been long over. The nice thing of rolling is that many students do not need to wait till 4/15 for decision. The funny thing is many would still complaints for not having a fixed date for the decision. Later, there will be similar complaints from waitlisted applicants.
Anyone know if it’s still possible to get direct admit to Ross if deferred from school originally?
