300-400 hours of community service hours
a lot of writing contest awards
newspaper editor for two years
literary magazine editor
debate team for two years (state champions last year)
the vice president of the french club
co-president of french honor society.

thanks!

cubs- Yes, you have a chance at getting. I will say that you are rather weak, not overall, but gpa. From my experience, UMich seems to care much more about gpa than it does for anything else. For example, a student with a 3.88 gpa with only 1 AP class, 33 ACT and rather mundane extracurriculars was admitted within 2 weeks while another student with a 3.73 gpa, 32 ACT, 3 AP classes, student council member and key club VP was deferred and still has not heard a response from UMich. So, while you do have a chance, the low gpa hurts you a lot and although Michigan does describe itself as having a holistic review, gpa carries a huge amount of weight, Michigan barely seems to care about the difficulty of courses. If your 7th semester grades are good, then you will have a good shot at getting admitted but if they are poor then you should start looking at other schools. Good luck.

hey, so i was deferred in december with the “good” letter so i was wondering if any of you could chance me! (sorry, well aware this is annoying)
i applied for summer admit
i have a 3.6 gpa, relatively heavy course load (strongly tilted towards humanities)
competitive public school in nj
2130 SAT (670 M/690 R/770 W)
680 Lit, 710 US
a lot of honors but only 1 AP through junior year (APUSH-5) because not really available until senior year if you’re not on the very advanced math track. Also, choir has always been my elective.
7th semester- 4 A’s and 1 B (4.4 W, 3.9 UW) 2 AP’s, 2 honors, 1 regular (math)
strong extracurriculars in theater, choir, and red cross
studied sustainable development in india for a month summer 2008
NYU pre-college course summer 2009, received A
i sent in an extra rec from my trip leader, a page long letter updating them on my year, and my 7th semester grades
my recommendations are all very strong
didn’t apply for aid
thanks so much! and good luck to everyone waiting!

oh, and just to clarify the nyu program was a college class with mostly nyu students so it wasn’t really ‘pre-college’ for anyone except me.

my friend was deferred. he had a 3.6 gpa but he took a crapload of ap’s and hs schedule was so fricken hard. But he knew he’d not get in or get deferred so this senior year, he took an easy classload with only one ap this year, as he took 6 ap’s last year. then he sent in his 7th semester with a 4.0 so do you think he has a chance.
personally, that’s so frikking stupid how um cares a ton about gpa over everything else.
i mean, if i took the coarseload my friend took, i’d be so overworked and my gpa would be so low. However, he proved with easier classes this year he could get a 4.0 so do u think he can make it?

sorry for hhe bad speelling and grammar, as i wasn’t looking at my screen to type this.

yea i doubt i’m sending in my 3.2 UW 4.5 W midyear report.

^Hahaha I just sent in mine. pretty much the same 3.2 uw

i didn’t mean to make it sound like those grades are bad though! i got the “good” deferral, so i don’t have to send mine in. just compared to my past grades, i don’t think it enhances my application. i was going to send them in at first, though

I got the third letter. Idk, I just didn’t want to get rejected, call them and have them tell me that I didn’t get in cuz I didn’t send in my grades. It could hurt me but I sent in a bunch of other stuff that updates them on what I’ve been doing this year and I also sent in my grad pics (me wearing all Michigan stuff lol)

@LadyGAGHa I tried to call my reviewing counselor, and he obviously doesn’t have time for me. I left a message and never got a reply, and then I called back later and they basically told me to quit calling because he doesn’t have time to talk.

^LOL. maybe they’re waiting for u to get the hint…anyways…

i got deferred back in the week of christmas :o

i totally forgot how this works, but are they sending us our final decisions out in waves?

yea i got deferred december 24! i seriously don’t think there’s anything else i can do…i’ve already sent in tons of stuff, talked to my reviewing counselor, and my counselor is going to try to call sometime this week.

i’m also wondering if final decisions come out in waves too, thisgirlisaG. i believe they do, since some people who were deferred have already gotten accepted.

From what I’ve seen on the decisons thread from last year, they send em out in waves with waitlists showing up at the very end of the cycle.

if you were defered with the “good” letter, are you basically a reject if you still haven’t heard back by now?

^^…no

but your chances are low right? or do they suddenly send a big wave of acceptances to deferred applicants at around april?

what? why would your chances be low if you got the “good” deferral?

^ Word Gaga… Word

Does anyone know if deferred applicants are actually just deferred to regular decision and could hear any time, or if we are all looked at last? I applied for summer and the possibility that I may not know where I am going to school until late april or possibly later if I’m waitlisted is beginning to scare me a little. Any input would be really helpful! Also, I received the “best” letter and have sent in my semester grades (which were also my best ones, 4.4 W, 3.9 UW), a personal letter, and an extra recommendation.
