University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

I know it seems early, but it’s never too early to think about Michigan applications, especially since the Early Action deadline is a little under 2 months from now! Who here is applying Early Action?

I just submitted today !!

Wow, I just took the ACT again today, so I probably won’t finish the app for another month, haha.

Plan to apply early action. Hope there isn’t as many deferrals as there was last year

My son applied about 2 weeks ago-- wants computer science. I don’t think I’ve seen anything about admission stats for COE, but hoping he has a shot…35C (33E, 34R, 35S, 36M) but only 4.02 weighted and just outside top third for rank (lots of Bs fresh/soph yr, although 4.79 gpa as a jr with 4 ap classes), lots CS related classes and ECs…good luck to everyone as we all obsess together…

@s16s18s21s25 For CS major, your son may apply to LSA instead. It would be a bit easier to be accepted. GPA is very critical for UMich admission though.

I also plan to apply Early Action in early October.

@whizkid98 Hey, I tested on that date, too!

Good luck to everyone! I feel we’ll be spending a lot of time in this thread, especially as Christmas nears.

Just got my ACT scores back, 34! Now I can finally finish up that application.

Congrats whizkid98!

Thanks, I hope this really helps my admission chances.

@whizkid98 Congrats! That would definitely help your chance. ACT 34 is the 75th percentile for UMich this year. Are you from in state or OOS? Applying to LSA or CoE?

In state, applying to LSA.

Billcsho, don’t you think that the engineering students raise the middle ACT range of the school though? Do you really think ACT 30 to 34 is an accurate range for LSA in specific?

@LogicalNonesense Yes, CoE student would lift the admission stat higher, but there are also other schools that lower the admission stat too. LSA is 3/4 of UMich that contribute most to the admission stat anyway, while CoE is only 1/5 of the whole campus in terms of student body. CoE is only around 1 point higher in ACT and may increase the overall admission mid 50 by 0.2 which is insignificant. So the mid 50 for LSA is likely very close to UMich overall.

Agree with @billcsho Btw. Nursing middle 50 is 26-30. While nursing is tiny we were told that this was in line with kinesiology and STAMPS.

^ Don’t forget the music school too which uses other criteria for admission.

Applied today to College of Engineering.

Does anyone have a prediction of the acceptance rate this year? It’s been decreasing over the past few years as the applicant pool has increased, and I’m wondering what it’s going to look like this year.

Number of students applying is going up every year… partly because of the reputable programs at UMich and also that common app is so much easier and streamlined.

Just curious- How many days does it take to get a confirmation email from U Mich and a U Mich ID to start tracking the application receipt and the supporting documents#?
