University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

@futurecivilguy14 What is your recalculated UW GPA? Are you out of state? Your ECs are fantastic, but unfortunately I think you’ll probably be put on the waitlist for EA. However, if your UW GPA is really high and you are in state, your odds are a lot better.

@hailbate I’m not sure but i think my UW GPA would be a 3.8. I’m an international.

Did you apply for the fall of 2016? I thought we would not hear until sometime after 12/18?

12/18 is the earliest we’ll find out I believe.

@hailbate Did you apply last year- or have you already heard this year?

@woah16 Same thing happened to me last year, and I was accepted early action. You’re fine as long as you submitted the actual application before the deadline.

I sent in my november SAT score to michigan because I improved 40 points in my math section. It says on Wolverine Access that it was received. Michigan said that on their website that they will look at subscores for other tests even if its not from the highest score from one sitting. Do you think they might’ve already made a decision on my app and didn’t look at it? I sent them on Nov. 24th and sent my mich app in on the 27th of October. Thanks.

2 weeks guys! This is crazy.

According to previous acceptance stats, I’m guaranteed at least a deferral (knock on wood). Good luck guys!

@overthetopmom I applied 2 years ago, but my friends who applied last year and 3 years ago experienced the exact same thing as I did

Just read through the posts from last year’s U Mich EA announcements. There were a lot of OOS students with very strong credentials (including ACTs 34 and 35) who were wait listed in Dec. Folks may need to be ready for that. Many of these applicants were picked up during the regular admission - but, they had to wait a few more months for decisions

: (

@ProudDad26 do you think it’s because Mich wants to protect yield or because more strong applicants are applying and it’s more difficult for everyone?

Not exactly sure why - could be either, or something else. I do think credential requirements continue to climb. Percentage of OOS is increasing at U Mich, as well. I don’t know if this was something that was unusual for U Mich last year. There was some discussion as to whether they had difficulty getting through all of the EA applications last year. Deferral would also give more time to review applicant packets, check on senior mid-year grades, etc.

Yeah good points. Hoping for good news in the coming weeks

I guess that since there’s so many OOS applicants that Michigan only decided to accept the ones who showed a lot of passion for the school for EA. Meanwhile I’m a bit worried for in state, because I have a high ACT but my GPA is only 3.73. I’m not sure how this is going to go.

What do you guys think they are expecting for in state applicants this year? same as last year (easier than usual), harder?

@thebloom Was last year easier than usual? I couldn’t tell because most of the results I saw from last year’s thread were OOS.

@whizkid98 Yes, I go to a 2000 person school in Oakland County (Oakland County has largest amount of students attend Michigan) and 29’s were sufficient for in-state students last year. Also to note, interestingly enough, the kids at my school who had the highest scores and grades (and would generally be perceived as more “book worms”) got deferred (but then got in in February). Meanwhile, those with 29-30 and a less extreme schedule (less AP’s) but on the flipped had some well rounded extracurriculars got in during EA. Previous 2 years before this past had required higher ACT’s in the middle to high income Michigan area at least.

I’m not sure what it takes to get in EA as an OOS. I guess my D will see : )

Here’s a thread that I came across not too long ago: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/1721049-class-of-2019-university-of-michigan-ea-results-thread-stats-p1.html. It might be useful to some of us here.
