University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

Hey guys! Have they released a date yet for when EA decisions are released?

@yaytest33 Might be wrong but I think people were saying Dec 18

@yaytest33 The only date they release is “by the 24th”, but it is likely that the first decisions will be released on the 18th.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to the idea that applicants with a letter of recommendation from a current UM faculty member get put “in another pile” and reviewed separately that the larger group of EA applicants?

@somersboysmom It’s highly improbable

Does anyone know if they send out all emails at once or over multiple days?

@northshoredad1 In past years, it has been over multiple days.

first batch of decisions will be released December 18th at 4pm.

@thebloom Thanks! But how did you find out?

@sunbeams A friend of mine went to an information session at UMich recently and they told them the exact time!

@thebloom is 4PM michigan time?

@gracein19 yes

@thebloom Thanks! It’s also the last day of final exam, perfect!

is there a specific way the different ones are sent out over multiple days? like alphabetical or by where you live, or is it just kind of random

The vast majority of decisions will be released on Friday, December 18. However the emails won’t all go out at exactly 4pm. They send them out in waves based on decision (deferred, deferred with a request for additional test scores, deferred with a specific request for senior grades, admitted). I’m not sure there’s any particular sequence to which go when. Because they’re sending out 30,000 emails, the server takes some time to distribute them all.

Once all of the emails have been sent (not necessarily received), Wolverine Access will be enabled and the View Decision tab will be accessible. Only admitted students can see their decision though, so deferred students will have to wait for their email to confirm their decision.

There will be a relatively small number of students that won’t receive a decision on the 18th and may have to wait until the 24th. Those could be students that didn’t initially qualify for Early Action and had to get an exception granted so their file was reviewed later, or applications that went through additional committee review or consideration.

I have read a few posts that an EA deferral decision is being regarded as essentially a rejection. Is that the case, ie are most deferred applicants generally not ultimately accepted? Any rough stats on it from anyone? Thaks

@WolverineGrad Bump, someone answer

I’ve read through the class of 2019 decisions and class of 2018 and a lot of the people post “deferred - accepted,” so it’s not like a rejection. But I also saw people who were deferred, waited months for a decision, and were rejected.

@WolverineGrad that is actually the opposite of what I have heard. From what I’ve seen, there are a ton of defferals in the EA round, and a decent number of them turn into accepted decisions RD. If you look through the class of 2019 EA thread, you can see out that turned out last year

@james1998iq and @GoPack87 thanks a lot, much appreciated. Good luck to you both. Go Blue!
