@alexxxcee damn! If my deferral doesn’t turn into an acceptance I will curse the IB gods forever. >:)
All that were deferred…take a deep breath and relax. Being deferred isn’t the end of the world, most of you will still get admitted in the decisions rounds of February, March and April. Continue to show interest in the University of Michigan and send in your semester grades!!!
There is rarely any rejections in the EA, all are either acceptances or deferrals.

I created a thread for this (Why Umich?) so I’d (along with many others on this thread) prefer you to answer there, but why do you want to attend U of M?
@uguysrhype
I think you are spot on. I believe Michigan is tired of everybody with Ivy type grades/test scores using them as a safety in EA. So they Accepted those in their normal range and deferred many of those Above the range unless that had shown real interest by attending a camp or something. Then in the Deferral letter they ask for a set of future grades just to see if you send them in and, thus, show real interest. If you do, they most likely accept you. Why would they do this? I believe it’s for the same reason Northwestern accepted an abnormally large % of their ED applicants several years back. Doing this increases their “yield” and that is a college ranking criteria, I believe. So increasing their yield dramatically helped Northwestern move up from 18th to 12th. Maybe Michigan wants to do the same. Good luck to you all! I believe a large majority of you with strong applications will get in if you show continued interest in the future!
Got deferred from CoE.
Pretty pissed off tbh
34 ACT, (35 Math)
3.75 W, 3.9UW
Good essays and good rec letters
President and Founder of club, secretary of another, officer of two others.
What are my chances for getting in?
around 5:15 @erics98
Deferred. Not happy.
Congrats to the people that got accepted!
To everyone that got deferred:
I read through last year’s deferred forum. It seems like we would increase our chances of acceptance (and might even get one as early as late January) if we send in a letter of continued interest and mid-year reports!
~Good Luck

I just got accepted into LSA. I checked WA, still nothing in my email. Everyone in my school was getting their decision around 4 pm so i was freaking out that I didn’t get accepted and just deferred but it showed up in WA at around 1:30 AM pretty sure.
In case anyone was wondering i’m in state, 3.97 UW GPA, 29 ACT, decent EC’s (NHS, Varsity sports). I think i had decent essays, nothing spectacular, not sure about my teacher recs either but they’re from a teacher I trust.
Yes…I got accepted in the University of Michigan…wooohooooo…I am an international student…Can I apply for financial aid now…after my admission decision has come ?Can I send in my CSS Profile now?
@senna4ever thanks mate - do you know the deferral acceptance rate in feb? And how can we show interest?
@angelacgeorge haha same!!! supposedly we got the “good” version of the deferral letters from what I’ve been reading on here tho lol
To which email address should I send the letter of demonstrated interest? And what should I write in it? Thanks!
@McKilla99 Write to your regional office. This should on the U Mich admission website. In the letter, I would probably say that U Mich is my top and all of the stuff. Anything else to add people? Maybe a letter of recommendation from Alumni or something might help.
Well it is 6:15am on Saturday and have still received no change in my status in Wolverine Access and no email of any kind. I am guessing this means deferral but wondering if anyone else has also not received any update at all yet?
Got deferred from the School of Nursing last night :((
Accepted last night to LSA, 33 ACT and 4.1UW GPA
