<p>Extenuating circumstances/hooks: Rough lifestyle including drugged parents for years, dad passed away recently, mom is sickly and brother is autistic, abusive parents, etc. Just some big setbacks. First generation </p>
<p>High match for in state. First generation helps. Match if you are female. I know a girl in state with even lower ACT score accepted this year. Make sure you write a good essay. Be specific when you write the “why this school” essay. Register for the TechDay in Fall (registration open in Summer). You will get some information to put into your essay.</p>
<p>Thanks!! I’m definitely going to sign up for that. I’m pretty sure my essays will be very passionate and show genuine interest in Michigan. I’ve grown up around there and been a die hard Michigan fan forever! haha </p>
<p>If I get a B this semester by chance, should I wait until regular decision to apply so I can show better grades, or do you think I’d get deferred anyway?</p>
<p>For UMich, it does not really matter. Direct rejection from EA is rare. If not admitted at EA, it will be deferred to RD and you can submit better grades and scores.</p>
<p>@StanfordScience No. I used to work there and my D will be a freshmen in Engineering this year. So we just went through the whole process recently.</p>
