Extenuating circumstances/hooks: Rough lifestyle including drugged parents for years, dad passed away recently, mom is sickly and brother is autistic, abusive parents, etc. Just some big setbacks. First generation

UMI CoE: High match

Bump anyone else?

High match for in state. First generation helps. Match if you are female. I know a girl in state with even lower ACT score accepted this year. Make sure you write a good essay. Be specific when you write the “why this school” essay. Register for the TechDay in Fall (registration open in Summer). You will get some information to put into your essay.

Thanks!! I’m definitely going to sign up for that. I’m pretty sure my essays will be very passionate and show genuine interest in Michigan. I’ve grown up around there and been a die hard Michigan fan forever! haha

If I get a B this semester by chance, should I wait until regular decision to apply so I can show better grades, or do you think I’d get deferred anyway?

For UMich, it does not really matter. Direct rejection from EA is rare. If not admitted at EA, it will be deferred to RD and you can submit better grades and scores.

Hey thanks, you’ve been really helpful. Did you go to Umich, by chance?

@StanfordScience No. I used to work there and my D will be a freshmen in Engineering this year. So we just went through the whole process recently.

Oh wow haha! Congratulations! Maybe I’ll see her there. Which type of engineering is she interested in?

She is interested in ChemE, but she may consider Material Sci Engineering too.
