Im interested in transferring to UMich for the Fall of 2006. I’m currently a freshman in college and had a few questions about applying to UMich, and would appreciate if someone could answer them.

Since UMich has rolling admissions, when would be the best time to apply for the Fall of 2006? Im guessing right after I finish my 2nd semester?

On the application it asks if I want to apply for the LSA or the Business school. I want to major in business, but by the Fall of 2006 I will be a sophmore, so I should just apply to the LSA right?

Does instate/out of state come into play for transfer admissions?

How competitive is the transfer process at UMich? Does anyone have any average grades/SAT’s that an admitted transfer student at UMich has?

1, Not sure if they have rolling for transfers, but I suppose it would definitely be wise to turn in the application early (before the deadline, that is).
3, I would think so.

Best time to apply for fall 2006 would be as soon as you get your fall 2005 grades.

I don't know

I'm pretty sure it does

I know its pretty competitive, according to their website they get about 3,000 transfer apps. a year and about 1200 get accepted. They want you to have atleast a 3.0 GPA but they say for the schools that have a lot of kids apply to them (i.e. LSA) the most competitive transfers have about a 3.6 GPA. Since you are only a freshmen in college they will also look at you high school GPA and ACT/SAT but not as much as if you were a high school senior. The longer you go in college the less they look at you high school grades and test score. You should also go to their website umich.edu and go to prospective students, they have a lot of info about classes that transfer in and what kind of classes each school wants you to take before you transfer.

In regards to #1 on when to apply, i should wait until I get my 2nd semester grades? So it isnt like HS where u can apply before getting your final grades then sending them in later?

Also, with schools like UMich that have rolling admissions and take students in the spring and the fall, what do I have to lose if I apply in the spring, get rejected then apply in the fall? Do they not allow you to apply twice in one year? Because I plan on applying after my 2nd semester anyways, but if I can apply twice I might as well.

Well, yeah I guess you can apply now for fall 2006 if you want, they'll just wait until they get your grades.

Yes, you can apply for the winter semester (thats actually what I'm waiting to hear about) but the deadline has passed (october 1 I think it was) so just apply for fall '06 and if you don't get in you can just have them update your application for winter '07.
