I applied around December 20th, but as an international student from Brazil I expected to receive my decision just in a couple of weeks.
In regards to what @YaBoyTony said, from what I’ve read, it takes around 6 weeks to make a decision for a US applicant, and 8 weeks for international students. UMich does read applications in the order they are received, and try to make the decisions in the same way. However, they do “defer” some applications to be reviewed later in the process (usually borderline applications, but it really depends) and make about a half of the decisions just by the end of March. At least that’s what I have seen, by the way, so please don’t consider what I am saying to be completely accurate.
For this reason, I believe they are just releasing acceptances for now, as it doesn’t make sense to reject an applicant now before comparing him/her to the rest of the pool.
@mdlego Wait did you get in, or are you still waiting for a decision? I got in, but my FA section still says what your’s says. I know I will be getting some need-based aid even if I do not get any merit aid, and I turned in all my forms for FA already.
@mdlego I do remember. It looked like that before the decision and it still looks like that. I don’t think it gives any indication on the status of your application, so don’t worry about that.
@mdlego I was completely obsessed about finding such “subtle hints on the portal” before I got accepted this Friday. Unfortunately, I’m afraid there is no such a thing. I would check my portal twice a day, check my email every two hours or something, check this forum whenever possible… This was just the first decision I could have received though, and as it didn’t really have a definite date I could do nothing but obsess over it.
The truth is that the decision will probably come out when you least expect. And don’t worry, this is just the second great wave of decisions, but they do release some individual decisions almost every day.
For reference, I applied around December 20th, as an international student from Brazil, and was admitted to the College of Engineering this past Friday.
@skywalker11 Congrats on getting in! And yep… that’s exactly what I am doing right now for all my colleges. I am constantly checking cc threads, emails, portals, etc, and trying to find if colleges would drop any subtle hints.
I have a quick question. Anyone know why there are two applications within the portal under two different years? Under my admission applications, I have undergraduate LSA for Fall 2016 AND Undergraduate Business Admin for Fall 2017??
@mdlego you applied preferred to Ross, right? If so, you must first be admitted to LSA (for Fall 2016), and then Ross will decide if they will admit you directly or not (for Fall 2017). That’s why you have two applications under two different years.
@oreolover123 I was wondering the same thing. I got one and a 2013 CC thread said not everyone gets an email but anyone can apply. It would make sense not everyone gets the email because the deadline to apply is before all decisions go out.
@oreolover123 I think so. It’s a lot of work (500-1000 words w/citations) but umich is basically my top choice so I think it will be worth my time to apply. I’ve heard mixed reviews about their honors program but worst case you get in and then deny it. You?
