university of michigan rolling admission better?

hi, im about to go into my senior year and I feel im a pretty good student. Im in the IB Program and think I have taken rigorous courses, but i'll let you be the judge of that. i currently have a 3.6 unweighted GPA, and a 4.31 weighted GPA, am african-american varsity swimmer for 4 years, club swim team member for 4 years, have 500 community service hours, Editor in Chief as well as a member of many clubs including NHS. I have also been accpetied into J-Camp which is a prestigious journalism camp which selects 30 of the nations best journalists for a program in different cities. I am also involved in helping to build schools in nations that dont have very good education systems, and have helped fund raise and get the word out to the public. The only set back about my resume is that my SAT's are not good, only a 1740. I really like those schools, and some have EA, some SCEA, and all RD, and i just cannot find a way to apply to them where my chances are good of getting into the school. Some schools i know are easier to get in early, while others are hard, and if someone could help me out with explaining on my chances, and what i need to do to ensure my success. I plan on double majoring in journalism as well as medicine. The bottom question is should I apply rolling to Michigan and send it in as early as I can? Or should I wait, retake the October SAT, then submit it for early action?

Are you in state or OOS? Definitely retake the SAT. Apply as early as you can.

Michigan uses race as a factor in their admissions process. I think you can get in. Your GPA is good. By the way Michigan uses only your sophomore and junior year GPA. I’m nost sure the GPA you listed was cumulative or not. Rolling admissions is better because the earlier you apply the better chance you have in being accepted. Lets say you get into Michigan early. Now you have the option of applying to other schools knowing that regardless of where you go, you are going to a prestigious University where 70% of Michigans programs are in the top 10. Re-take your SAT’s and good luck.

i have a question for rolling admissions schools such as UMich and UMaryland…

when exactly would the earliest date be to send in applications?

i think you can turn in your application even today lol

but probably the first week of school

University of Michigan 2010 application is open sometime in August.

This is no longer true. Michigan is now prohibited from considering race in admissions as a matter of state law. Proposal 2, adopted by referendum in 2006, prohibits race-based affirmative action or admissions preferences. The University claims it now abides by that policy.

Can you michigan people help me out ?

As far as the OP is concerned - U have a very good shot , i’d say 70-75% … The counselor at Michigan advised me to apply as early as possible … so be ready with the esaay’s and transcripts andd send it as soon as the application is released .

^
Actually they don’t start reviewing applications until late August, so I don’t think you will be any further behind sumbitting your application September 12th than one who submitted August 21st.
