Hello all! This is my first time posting on here, so I hope I’m doing it correctly!
I am a 17-year-old (18 next month) senior in high school, but I am also a full-time student in college. I only have one class at the high school, and I am currently enrolled in 4 classes at Henry Ford College. I was wondering if you guys would give me my chances and some tips of advice for getting into University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Here you go!
Background:
White Female
Straight in the middle Middle-Class family
Both parents didn’t go to college, only high school graduates
High School:
3.7 GPA
2 AP classes, but only took the APUSH exam and got a 4 on it. The other AP I took was AP English Lang.
Part of the yearbook staff senior year, selling $500 in advertisements
President of Young Progressives Club (it’s our version of a democrats club)
One of the few students that organized and spoke at the walkout on March 14th that gathered 1,500 students.
Girl Scout from 3rd grade to now, ranking in many community service hours.
SAT Score: 1290
College:
4.0 GPA
Dean’s List
Have completed 7 classes so far (21 credits)
Taking 14 credits currently
Another 12-14 credits in the fall and then 12-14 more in the winter semester
General Info to consider:
I want to enroll for 2019 fall semester, so I would be applying this fall.
In state student from a diverse city
Would be applying with 30+ transferable credits.
Let me know if you need any other information, thanks!
Hey! I think you have a great chance. I got in for this upcoming fall with a 4.0 community college, which you have. You have a way better HS GPA than I did, too. Your EC’s are strong. Also you’re an in-state which I didn’t have going for me so you should be a awesome candidate!! My only tip is to work on your essays. Michigan has more sups than the other schools I applied to but I think they helped my application.
@ktkoala thank you so much! what do sups mean? haha sorry, new here. Also, I’m still so stuck on what to write my essay on, so hopefully I figure it out and make it amazing! How long should the essay be? Thank you again, your help means so much, it has always been my dream to go there!
Ah sorry! I just meant the supplemental essays. Another thing that helped me is having really strong relationships with professors so my letter of recommendation were positive. When you register with common app it’ll show you everything. No worries- you have lots of time
Credits look good! I know they can be sticklers about a certain amount of credits needed to transfer to UofM
Hi guys, this is my first post in here so I hope it works out. Anyways I read in these posts a lot when I was applying and it has all been really helpful, so I thought I’d give my input. I applied for the University of Michigan LSA as a transfer student from Grand Valley State University for the fall of 2018 semester on February 1st. I found out yesterday that I have been accepted! For anyone who is wondering about their credentials and is curious what their chances are, here’s mine.
High School GPA: 3.89
New SAT: 1310
Didn’t take the ACT
No high school AP courses taken, but one dual enrollment class and I got an A.
College GPA so far through one semester: 4.0
6-8 volunteer hours a week during college
3 sports played throughout high school
2 letters of recommendation
I felt I was a bit under-qualified to get in based on my lack of AP classes and my lower end of the SAT score, but I think my good semester of college grades and my essays made up for it. I think if even if you don’t do incredible in high school, by really pushing yourself in college and proving to UMICH that you deserve to get in you can do it. Best of luck to anyone who hopes to get in!
