University of Michigan Transfer Thread

Let's make the thread for UMich. Boys and girls, just post your stats here and be sure to include your app date and complete date.

Yay for this thread! The threads on the Michigan board have been taken over by those crazy high school seniors (although I don't blame them for being crazy at this point, I'm sure some of us were them last year).

OOS Female
Currently a Freshman at Northeastern University
1330/1920 SAT
89 out of 100 UW H.S. GPA (upward trend, had an 84 my freshman year) I went to a very competitive high school in New York that sent 20+ students to UMich in '05, but only 6 in '06 (my year)
3.7 College GPA w/ 14 credits...now taking 16 credits (the most I can)
Applying to Kinesiology (Sports Management) for Fall '07
App. complete: January 15 (late, I know)
Great EC's, internship experience & recs in regard to Sports Management & Journalism (hoping this will put me over the top)

I'm actually getting pretty nervous about my chances at transfer, I keep kicking myself bc I got in as a senior in HS and the honors program as well and didn't go...whyyy was I so stupid?!?!?

instate female
pretty well known hs in Michigan, we actually send alot of kids to Umich..
currently freshmen at Barnard College (in NY, by columbia uni.)
HS gpa: 4.2 (weighted) 3.8 (unweighted)
current gpa: 3.7
1st semester 15.5 credits, this semester 17
sats: 2160/2400
acts: 32
applying to LSA for Fall 07, no clue as to major
no jobs or internships to speak of, but I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel alot and learn things from all that abroad time.
I finished the app Nov. 20, but my transcript was delayed for some reason, so admissions won't get it for another two weeks, this makes me incredibly nervous.

is it substantially harder to get in as an out-of-state transfer?

hsGPA: 3.525, top 10%
University of Maryland
cGPA: 3.513
SAT: 2120/2400
SATII: 800 mathII, 750mathI, 600Lit

applying to LSA, major in Statistics

I know umich said they didn't need recs from transfer students, but I'm starting to want one in my app....I'm not too close to any of my college teachers, but does anyone think maybe a rec from a hs teacher would do anything? I;m really tight with my hs teachers, and I know they would send good ones...any ideas?

Hey Flavour, you said you want to transfer from Barnard. It gets me wondering because my friends relative really was unhappy there. But good lucky regardless, I think you stand a good chance. BTW, is UMich the only school you're applying for transfer? Because you should let them know somehow so they don't think you'll turn them down again.

yea barnard is horrible, I don't know what will happen if I don't get into Umich, there is a possibility that I will just quit school altogether. I cannot fathom another year in this place. I feel like if I called the admissions people and was like, listen, I won't turn you down again! they'd just be like, whatever, doesn't matter to us...I feel like too many ppl apply to umich for something like that to be taken into consideration. but I dunno, any ideas on how to approach that?

Really sorry to hear about Barnard. Try to come up with some safety transfers just in case UMich doesn't accept you...it would be a travesty if an excellent student like you didn't complete school. Maybe you can send in a letter to admissions explaining your situation. Good luck.

hey, for freshmen, is applying in January considered late? wouldn't they have to wait for our first semester grades? because they wouldn't have any basis to judge college performance would they?

i dunno im nervous now......

flavour, you should have no problem getting accepted.

btw...i'm at another u of m campus...and i got a 4.0 with my first 15 credits...and am taking 17 this semester....applyin 2 lsa...but still....wats up wit the timetable for transfers?

thanks for all the helpful comments, as for other ppl's questions, I would offer help if I could, but I'm just as lost and nervous as you guys are...

I forgot to ask, I'm technically an out of stater since I'm attending a school in new york, but I'm absolutley positive that I would be considered an in state student considering my family has lived in michigan forever and ever, my brother goes to msu, and all my income comes from businesses in michigan. the only reason I am out of state is bc i went to college here. would this out of state thing affect whether or not I get in?

HS UMich weighted GPA: 2.75 - very good personal reasons for getting a low GPA that are explained in an essay
University GPA: 4.0 (16 credits, another 17 this semester)
ACT: 26

EC: violinist section leader, traveled around Europe to play last summer
Internship in Shenzhen, China / Hong Kong, China for a medium size Arch Design company.
JV Tennis for High School

In-state

Applying for LS&A for Fall 2007.

I'm expecting to get deferred.

Cvjn, have you considered getting recs from teachers? If you're not close to anyone from your college, from high school maybe? That option is something I'm looking intoo..

Yup, I got a recommendation from my econ professor. I was 1 out of 2 that got A's in his class, and I showed a great interest in it. The average grade in his class was like a C / C- so it should be a good rec.

Michigan is a far better school than Ohio State.

No I am not biased. The truth hurts the minds of those not ready to accept defeat.

Kind of random, but I agree! And OSU didn't win the National Title either :D Ahh sweet revenge

ohio state and umich should not even be mentioned in the same sentence in terms of academics and reputation.

but football...

anyway~~~ this is a transfer thread, not a bash Ohio State thread. :O

Any TRANSFER applicants yet admitted/waitlisted/rejected?
