University of Michigan Transfer Thread

heard nothing yet. of course my application isn't even considered complete bc my transcript is being so damn weird. I had the application all done and wonderful on dec 1. why transcript??!!??

getting really antsy and concerned.

Mine was turned in on like 1/13/07 or something like that, and was completed 1/26/07

I haven't gotten my 4/4 email but I have gotten my UMID cause I called.

...question, does rolling admission depend on the date your app is completely submitted as in 4/4 email sent? or the date your application was submitted, then they jsut wait for your transcripts and stuff?

it depends on when your application is completed

esh. that sucks.

yay!

congraaaaaaaaats.

you guys know how the rating of your educational environment is taken into consideration, as said here: http://www.admissions.umich.edu/process/Freshman%20Application%20Rating%20Sheet.pdf

How do they tell if your high school was good or bad? My high school sucked balls, tiny, in the middle of the mountains in a rural area, 8 AP classes offered while I was at school (although they added more my senior year but I had to leave my senior year), and AP scores had an average of 2 with average SAT scores around 1500/2400 .... is this all in the school profile? cause my parents went through great pains to make sure I had "access to the outside educational world" so we really went beyond and above what we had access too .. thanks for any responses.

and I realize that is for freshman admission but I guess transfer admission isn't that much different..

So is only like 5~ of us transferring?

I've applied...recieved the 4/4 e-mail about two weeks ago. also applying to UNC and Wisc-madison

Ah that's right, forgot about that other thread.

It seems like on CC alone, we have near 10 or so transfers? Kinda low for a school like Michigan imo...

saaarah:

I think what they mean is that if your grades suck and you went to a super easy school, then they'll be less likely to accept you over a student that went to a really hard school and got average grades. But if you went to a easy school and got stellar grades, but low sat scores, they'd take you over someone with average scores/grades at a good school....I'm pretty sure thats the info I got from a lot of schools that said they looked that previous educational environment.

anyhow, if your parents put a lot of effort into your education outside of your school, they I'd mention that as much as possible on youe education, though I don't know how much time you have?

I plan to apply soon, not sure when. Possibly for fall 2008.

Major?: psychology
Current University/College: typical tier 2 state school
Current College GPA: 4.0
Units Completed at College: 20 (semester units)
College ECs: academic honors, some clubs, work?
H.S. GPA: barely in top third of class (3.8 on my school's scale, but 2.7 unweighted)
SAT I : 1310
H.S. ECs: some awards, work
Reason[s] for Transferring: academics

I'm taking 16 credits this semester, and so far have all As. So after this semester I should have 36 credits and a 4.0. After the summer, I'll have 45 credits.

Should I retake the SAT? I could easily improve my score (I didn't care about it in high school). Should I take SAT IIs?

If you're applying for Fall 2008, I don't suggest retaking the SAT. You'll have a lot of college credits already, which is more than enough to keep them less focused on your high school grades. And I'm pretty sure SAT II's don't even get looked at by Michigan, but not 100% sure.

What was your University of Michigan weighted GPA?

4 - A
3 - B
2 - C
1 - D
0 - F

That makes a bit difference for high school. Generally it goes up, but mine went shooting down.

Only for Sophomore and Junior years, academic classes only. (Math, Science, Language, Social Studies, English)

Using that scale, my high-school UMich weighted GPA is only a 2.4! This is "biased," however, because I took six AP and four honors classes during those two years.
