University of Michigan vs Emory

Hey everyone, I am interested in going into pre-med, pre-dental, pre-law, buisness, pretty much anything except engineering. I wish to have a very fun time going to school (joining a frat, going to football games, having strong school apirit, etc), but also want to work and study very hard so that my goals are attainable. I have a 3.82 gpa, 32 act, extra curriculars, etc. MONEY HAS 0 WEIGHT IN MY DECISION. Which school is better for me? Also, which school has a stronger reputation nationally (us news aside)? Thanks for the help!

The two of them are completely different. Where do you want to be location wise? How big of a school do you want to be in? Do you want to be in a major city? The two schools are polar opposites in a lot of ways and you may want to do more research before asking complete strangers which one is better for you.

And I also intend to be a psychology major, and I visited emory and thought it was alright, and I’m excited to visit michigan in january.

I like the cold and I personally am not a fan of how emory is located situationally with atlanta (in druid hills )

Also, which school do you think has more prestige @micmatt513‌ ?

Prestige should not affect your decision. It sounds to me like you already know which school you want more – I think your opinion should matter the most. You’ll get a fine education with good connections at either school, and I think at this point it is more dependent on getting into the school than rejecting either one because of its perceived lack of prestige. Just my honest opinion.

Okay, yea I applied ed2 to emory and considering withdrawing out of it to Rd so I just wanted to find out if it’s worth it because I might not necessarily wish to go to emory

Have you been accepted to Michigan?

I’ve been defered (apparently good letter), and will possibly/likely find out January 31st so I have time do change ed2 to Rd for emory

Michgan is determined to shrink its freshman class size this upcoming year by at least 500 students. It’s going to be harder than ever for an OOS applicant to get accepted. While I appreciate your optimism in figuring you’ll get in, I certainly hope you have submitted applications to other colleges besides these two.

Yes, I already have a great “fall-back”, case western university with 27k scholarship

But as money has zero weight, I am kinda hoping for Michigan or emory (i applied to WashU RD, but I don’t have high hopes for that as I got rejected from Vandy ED)

How many schools did you apply to ED?*

*Nevermind. I just noticed the ED2 part. :-)

Haha, it’s okay, but just by prestige alone, which do you thing is better? @rjkofnovi‌ ??

Why don’t you re-post this after you 1) see where you get in and 2) visit both schools. In general I’d say to go to the school that feels like the better fit for you. There is not a big enough difference between the schools in terms of “prestige” (not my most important. criteria but apparently it is yours) to do otherwise. If you do very well at either school you will be fine.

Okay, the reason for me do this prior to acceptances is because my parents forced me to do early decision 2 to emory, and they told me that only if you get an acceptance to michigan before febuary 15 then we can change it to Rd for emory. I personally don’t believe I can get into emory without ed, so essentially changing ed to Rd is like me choosing michigan, which is what I have to do now.

And yes, I visited emory, but wasn’t too much of a fan of the buildings or the location and am going to visit michigan in January

“I wish to have a very fun time going to school (joining a frat, going to football games, having strong school apirit, etc),”

In my impression, Emory does not have a football team. Some students feel the school spirit is not high. Correct me if I am wrong.

Okay… so what you are telling me is emory is lacking in its fun, party scene type of thing

I went to Oxford College of Emory before attending the University of Oklahoma. While Emory doesn’t have sports derived school spirit, students have pride in its academics, resources, and general stature. Additionally if you want to party you can (trust me on this), especially if you plan on going geek.
