University of MIchigan vs. George Washington University?

U of M no $$ given but in state tuition COA $26,240/yr
GW COA $64,150-$15,000 renewable scholarship= $49,150/yr

I want to go to GW for size, location and program but $$ just tells me otherwise…. Should that be the deciding factor? Little afraid of the size of U of M and needing to find a program to fit interests. Running out of time...

UM is a great school, much more prestigious and rigorous than GWU. My D’s counselor reports that he’s never had a student go to UM who didn’t love it. To quote him, “they know what they’re doing up there” in terms of making u/gs happy. It’s a very different campus and feel from GWU, which is urban, like get run over crossing the street in front of the student union urban (seen that happen). Many of the students at GW (I’m on campus a lot) seem lost in their own little world and plans. I’ve yet to have one hold a door for me or keep one from closing in my face. In their defense, DC is not the friendliest city. I haven’t been to UM’s campus in a long long time so I won’t depend on my memory of the students I met then. GWU can offer you great internships in the world’s navel, but so can UM with its extraordinary alumni and business networks. I’d go to UM in a heartbeat over GWU. Oh, and then there’s the money: where I come from $100K plus inflation ain’t nothing to sneeze at. Where’s the extra $100K coming from? And for GWU? Please.
