University of Michigan vs UC Berkeley

Read the thread. There is no way to make up that difference in cost. They are comparable schools.

Regarding chemistry in particular, Berkeley’s program is much stronger than Michigan.
However, is it strong enough to warrant paying a huge premium? Probably not for an undergrad degree and if you have to take out large student loans to attend.

berk berk berk berk berk!! cal is great <3

Another reason to consider - my D2 also had a similar choice to make - UCB vs UMich (vs GTech) for ChemE, all OOS. The main reason we dropped UCB was that we found out that it is rather difficult to change from COC to COE. Interestingly enough, this is what happened - she moved from ChemE to MechE in the 3rd sem at GTech, very easy process.

This is an old thread. It should be shut down. By the way the College of Chemistry is safe, for now:

“On March 25, Douglas S. Clark, dean of Berkeley’s College of Chemistry, informed the college community that realignment of the college was no longer under consideration as a way to address the university’s campus-wide budget woes.”
