University of Michigan vs University of Texas

So here's the dilemma.

I live in Texas and was accepted at UT but I also was accepted at U Mich. However, the out of state tuition at U Mich is pretty ridiculous and UT is still a pretty good school. However, I really liked Michigan when I visited it. So, the question is, in all honesty. Is University of Michigan THAT much better than University of Texas, and when I mean that much better, I mean 100k better.

Have you visited UT-Austin? What do you think of the campus and the city? Austin is a nice place to spend 4 years.

No, Michigan is not that much better that it’s worth it to spend that kind of money. C’mon, you know that answer already. Just go to Texas and good luck.

No university is $100,000 better than UT-Austin (not even Harvard) to a middle-upper middle income family. Of course, to a wealthy family, $100,000 is insignificant, in which case, Michigan may be worth $100,000 over UT-Austin. However, if you are asking, $100,000 is a big deal to you. If that is the case, definitely go for UT-Austin. Texas is a great university and Austin is a great college town. It is hard to imagine a better undergraduate experience than UT.

Aren’t we a few days late with this conversation:??? Strange the OP would ask AFTER May 1st. OP – I am hopeful that you realized you’re to make a deposit somewhere by last Friday??? If for any reason you haven’t, you need to get on the phone Monday morning.
The time for questions is a little past. They will begin releasing spots for the waiting list tomorrow.

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor is the better choice, though University of Texas- Austin is also a good university. If financial is a issue consider UT, but UM-Ann Arbor is not a bad choice at all.

Texas has tornados that might kill you. Choose Michigan.

that was my exact dilemma n i chose UM i was gonna have to pay just around the same at both so i chose wat i thought was more worth the money

Michigan also has tornadoes, so it would still kill you

Austin is not in the part of Texas that has many tornadoes.

I grew up in ann arbor, and don’t remember the last time we had a tornado. We had a serious warning when I was in 2nd grade, maybe… but it didn’t turn into anything.

I wouldn’t worry about tornadoes too much when you’ll be in school. Blizzards should be more of a concern. LOL. I assume amer2384 already made up her mind where to attend college.

I agree with Alexandre. I am from Texas, and I turned down almost a full ride at @ UT honors engineering to go to UMich (of course only cause I got a huge engineering scholarship from here). However, like he said, no school is worth $100 g’s more than Texas.

UT is a lesser school than UMich right now. However, as soon as they finish pruning up the top 10 percent/auto admit rule, I think it won’t be long until the University’s rep is up there with UMich and UNC and the UC’s. It’s a great school, it’s just that the top 10 percent rule is putting a damper on the quality of student body the school should have. They are forced to reject many extremely bright students, because the class is filled with kids who never took an AP class, and got 97’s in all their regular classes.

If money is no object, pick UMich. However, if you’d enjoy UT, then I’d say go. UMich has a better engineering program, but it’s not 100k better, IMO.

No school in the world has an engineering program that is $100,000 worth more than UT.

Go to UT man. Im an intl student and honestly its a ripoff. If i was American I would have gone to the best in-state school. Austin is a great college town and if you do well you will have many opportunities for further study after graduation. Undergrad really isnt that big of a deal. You realize that once you get to college. Dont make the mistake of paying 21,500 dollars to take 4 lousy courses.

But I’m sure the OP has already decided, hope he likes his decision

It’s been a month since your post, so have you decided? I am curious because I am in the exact same position except with the University of Colorado Boulder. Hope you do well wherever you go!

For everyone, what do you guys think? Same story for CU?

Are you instate for CU?

The gap between CU and UM is much larger than with UT. Unless you are instate for CU and studying engineering or liberal arts go to UM. If $$$ is no issue go to UM.
