Should I go to Michigan (College of Literature, Science or the Arts) or go to USC (Marshall school of business)????What are the pros and cons of each school??? Thanks a lot!!

Also, I have to add that personally, I would want to pursue a career in business. So if I choose to attend Michigan for the college of Literature, Science and the Arts, I would apply for their Ross School of Business after my freshman year.

I don’t know much about business schools, but considering the US News undergrad business rankings, UMich is #4 and USC is tied for #10 with Cornell and Indiana. So both are very prestigious. If I were you, I’d go to USC - there’s no guarantee you’ll even get into Ross, and the weather in Los Angeles is a zillion times better. I could be biased though, considering the fact that I’ll be attending USC in the fall. x)

Well you are already in the major you intend to be in at USC so USC seems like the best fit. That being said most freshman change their majors and Michigan is a better overall university while USC is strong in particular areas. If you are not 1000% sure about your major then I would opt for Michigan. Of course all of this depends on $$ Any word on aid? If so break it down.

27 dreams, to those who actually like seasons and a white winter, LA’s weather may not be so ideal.

Canucks, as 27 dreams points out, both programs are excellent, but Ross is riskier since there is no guarantee that you will be admitted. If admitted, Ross typically attracts more Midwestern and East Coast firms while Marshall will have a stronger pull with California and West Coast firms.

Should weather and/or regional recruiting practices not matter to you, and should you feel confident about your chances of getting into Ross (not easy but certainly manageable), I would go with fit. USC and Michigan have vastly different campus cultures and are in significantly different suroundings. Have you visited? Did one of them appeal to you more than the other?

SISTOKID-I’m paying about $7000 more for Michigan than USC.

Alexandre-I haven’t visited the campuses yet. How are the campus cultures for Michigan and USC different???Also, do I have more opportunities in West Coast firms or Eastern firms???

7K x 4 = 28K - that is too much of a difference. I say stick with USC.

Go for USC. It’s a great school, good alumni connections and it’s MUCH cheaper. Wow…I guess I should follow my own advice. I’m in a very similar situation, USC is about $8000 cheaper for me per year. Haha well anyway, the weather is nice and you don’t have a guarantee of getting into Ross. Have you applied for Thematic Options?

what are thematic options???

Guys, both are very expensive to the OP. Michigan will probably cost him $200k over 4 years while USC will cost him $170k. Of course, if the $30k gap is to be entirely made up of loans, I would also recommend USC. However, if his folks have the means and are paying, I think the two are close enough in price for the OP to go with fit. Some prefer USC’s campus environment while others prefer Michigan’s. I recommend the OP visit the two before choosing.

No, I have quite a bit of university grants from both universities, as well as loans and work-study options, so my parents actually end up paying not as much.

so if they are only $6000-7000 apart in terms of financials, which one would you choose?

I also recommend that you visit both schools before choosing. Only you can determine which “campus culture” and “atmosphere” you like better, so hearing other people’s impressions and opinions on that type of thing isn’t really going to help much.

Can you afford this or is this a loan deal? Because USC is not worth 170K in loans NO WAY.

I only got like $5000 in loans, and like $44,000 in grants. So I will only be paying like a couple thousand.

One big issue is where you want to live and work and work after school. I’d go where you want to be long term.

^^^^^Michigan/Ross has a more national reach than USC/Marshall. Business recruiting is very prestige driven.

But the thing is what if I can’t get into Ross???that means that I will have wasted a year at LSA…
