University of Michigan Waitlist 2024

So… how are we all gonna get off the waitlist?!

I really want to write a LOCI of some sort, is this permitted?

Is there even any hope…? Stats from their website says that only 2% of the waitlist population got accepted last year :frowning: i’m actually so sad rn lol

Unfortunately, I was waitlisted too (CoE)… At this point, (someone please correct me if I’m wrong) I’m pretty sure who gets a spot into the school from the waitlist/those who don’t is basically based off luck. I’m upset too looking at previous years’ stats, but someone on the regular decision thread mentioned that the percentage might be higher due to the coronavirus :stuck_out_tongue:

@Starking I got waitlisted at LSA… :frowning: it isss what it issss, I guess. Did you mean the percentage would be higher as in… more people declining their acceptance? or more people accepting?

I got waitlisted CoE.
1520 SAT, 33 ACT, 3.92 unweighted GPA, 4.51 weighted GPA, Legacy, pretty good EC’s relating to engineering. I dont really know what more I could have done but I still have hope. UM is still my top school.

because of the corona virus, they’re saying many people might not be able to afford college/ they waitlisted more people because of the uncertainty. But since it is a state school, this is going to affect mostly OOS students. I’m hoping for the best… already know one person at my school who is declining

also, did anyone see anywhere that you can send in additional materials

Guys from personal contacts to what extent do you guys believe the coronavirus would affect u mich’s yield?

Wait listed!! CS — Its sad — My Dream School ?
1530 SAT 4.0 UW GPA
National commended
Valedictorian

this is so weird for me because i got waitlisted too and i have a 3.2 gpa and a 1490 sat. we don’t have APs at my school too

I lowkey hope they do choose by random lottery though, because my stats are pretty low compared to some of you other waitlisted people.
How were your essays? I wonder if that could’ve been what got me… I’m in-state so I thought my chances would’ve been higher.

And if the percentage of people accepted off the waitlist IS higher, it’s probably because they waitlisted so many people.

Hi guys how hard is it to transfer into UMich from an out of state college?

did anyone else apply to LSA and ross? i got waitlisted at LSA… does that mean I just can’t get into Ross anymore (if by some miracle i get into LSA)? or do I have to apply after my first year because does this count as a “rejection”

so many questions lol

Ok I have an answer! This link:
https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/selection-process
has a little dropdown at the bottom with info for waitlisted applicants. They ask us not to send anything else (unless they ask for it) as it will not be considered!
So no LOCI (and I think we’ve all already written one?)

I got waitlisted too  33 ACT 4.1 GPA OOS, pretty good ECs

does anyone know the dates that they could release decisions for waitlisted applicants?

also, would our grades matter/help with chances of getting off the waitlist? would they ask for a transcript of our current grades?

So for everyone here…there is still a chance but it’s very slight compared to the amount of people that will be on the wait list as a whole. No numbers till May 1st.

I would definitely get excited about you solid choice of acceptances. Get prepared to choose a school by May 1st because that is most likely where your going, so congratulations on that choice. Let this just ride out. If for some lucky stroke you get an offer, then you can make that decision. If not your already committed to go to the college of your choice.

Offers can literally happen at anytime but usually after May 1st. Remember Michigan doesn’t know the true number till sometime after May 1st when students actually commit to their schools of choice like all of you will do.

As you can see just from these few posts here it is not the highest grade or stat that gets accepted. It is truly a holistic review. Just look at who got accepted. Yes lot of high grade and Stat and some much lower. It’s about what type of make up they are trying to build into their class. It’s very little about you specifically.

Again my suggestion is just move on and if you happen to get an email in June /July then awesome
Also make sure you can afford the school. If you need financial aid it will be there for you. Don’t thing any merit will be though.

Good Luck at where you land.

@ihatecollege751 Not sure there is much you can do other than what @Knowsstuff has suggested and keep working hard in school. I suppose it can’t hurt to encourage people you know who were accepted but are certain they are going somewhere else to withdraw their apps from UM. Otherwise, cross your fingers and focus on what you can control. My DS took a spot on the WL but is still very excited about his second choice. So is my wallet.

@nyuuuuuuuuuuggg - I think UMichigan could go to the waitlist for 3 reasons:

  • some students cannot really afford it now (many, many, many Americans will lose their jobs - think back to 9/11). People will not go out like before for a while, etc. Businesses across all sectors will be down.
  • students might hesitate to take loans to do this - where they might have before because of the uncertainty re economic issues.
  • some students who might have to come from a foreign country might decide not to bother coming. If you were in Germany would you come to the US now? Probably not, you might wait and just come for graduate school.
  • Another related issue is maybe blocking students from coming to the USA from a certain country if the virus is excessive there. Not issue an visas to students from that country.
  • some students might not go to college. Period. They have now decided to stay home for a another year or two and see how things play out before leaving.
  • some students might decide to stay closer to home, not go across the country.

These are just some reasons. I am sure there are more.

My prediction is that colleges will be scrambling in August of this year to fill their spots.
