I talked to someone in admissions a couple of days ago and he said no new information (including LOCI) will be taken into account when reviewing waitlisted applicants, and there is nothing to increase chances. He also stated that waitlist decisions will come out sometime in june, and the virus will not effect this.
Where should I send my LOCI if I want to send one? Is there a specific email address I should send my letter to?
To admissions or to your school counsler for Michigan which is on their website under admission
Did the MI admission officer say that the virus will not affect timing off the waitlist or numbers of applicants taken off the waitlist?
For Umich LOCI, search University of Michigan Undergraduate Admissions and one of the first links should direct you to the website with “…umich.edu” in it and within that webpage, you can find your local admissions rep and reach out to them directly, as well as mail your letter to other admissions directors.
@2022soon He said the timing of waitlist, nothing about the number of applicants
The regional AO I emailed said to not submit any additional LOCIs or stuff like that. Should I do it anyway? And will I be negatively impacted if I do send it?
Follow their lead. They have a say
Don’t piss the off.
Get excited about your other options. Forget about the wait list. If it happens then you will have a decision. Very rare that it will…
Thanks!
My school counselor reached out to my area’s admissions counselor and she said that umich is expecting to take more kids off the waitlist this year than in previous years because of covid-19. They think more OOS students are going to stay in their home states so I’m not sure if they’re going to take in more in-state students. Also I’m a waitlisted (LSA) student with a 3.7 GPA and a 1370 SAT, in state. Good luck everyone!

U Mich cant assume that OOS will stay at home state. they should start sending out results so that they have enough time to send more acceptance if Lot of OOS students decide not to accept the … we are OOS and we will accept the offer in second
I sent in a LOCI and got an email back saying the officer will add it to my file
They have to wait till May 1st for everyone to either accept or not. Then they will have a clearer picture of the situation. This year will be interesting to say the least.
I applied to be in LSA, and I have a 4.1 and a 32 on the ACT score. I was in the school newspaper, cross country, marching band, concert band, and pep band… but I basically had no leadership position except 1 so…
who is your admissions counselor? mine didn’t bite.
I have zero official insight into this, but I can think of scenarios where a relatively wealthy school like U of M might prefer to tolerate a much smaller class in 20/21 because it would actually make it much easier to operate the university in person as opposed to online. For example, suppose yield was only half of what was expected. This would allow dorms rooms to be single; there would be fewer people to test constantly; and classes food service could more easily socially distance. FWIW, I might expect Michigan to coordinate with other in-state schools to spread the students and the revenue around. I’m sorry if that is a contrary or pessimistic view.
@superspectral. good point. This is my thought. Not only U Mich but other colleges are also facing similar scenario. They are losing lot of money from International students and not only that there will be no summer programs for high school students and we all know colleges charge arm and legs for these program… All cancelled. I am assuming there will be small drop in OOS students due to finacial uncertainity. I doubt they will enroll less rather they will have to be little bit flexible with their admission criteria.
Again this is just my thought and thats all we can do till we hear anything from admission office
@fryingvegetables sorry, I meant to tag you in my last post
does anyone know when theyre releasing the next round/wave off the waitlist or if we just have to wait until june?
