Whoa - I'm very surprised. You have the right attitude though, girl! You'll end up in a great place, I know it! Keep us posted!

Dear Samia,

I'm sure you know that I am surprised as well that you were not offered admission to UM. I know you are disappointed, but it is clear that you have the necessary confidence in your talent to take you far. I'm sure you know that it is not really about having "different ideas about what kind of talent makes a lasting, memorable performer." There are so many talented performers and never enough room to take them all at any one of these programs. For reasons we will never know, the UM powers that be went in a different direction in "casting" their class for next year. It in no way diminishes your gifts or your potential for a thrilling career. You clearly have the fortitude to move past this and on to another dynamic program that will be lucky to have you. I wish you only the best and am sad that I won't be able to see you at UM over the next two years. You know I was looking forward to it..... :(

Samia, after hearing your songs, I'm shocked about UM, as well. I thought you were a sure shot, but once again I'm reminded that no one is! You'll do fine no matter where you get that BFA -- you're fantastic.

Thanks, guys! I actually feel really great, which is weird, considering that UM was my 1st choice. I'm not worried at all. Thanks so much for the kind comments!

Samia,

You really do have a great attitude and I also think you are just fabulous!! Who else are you still waiting to hear from? We are proud of you for the great offers you already have! Keep Smiling! :-)

Samia,
Don't forget that besides this crazy difficult odds admissions process, yours is even longer odds as most programs have less transfer slots available.

Never forget that a "no" at a college or a "no" at an audition is not a testament to one's talent or worth. You can have what it takes but this one school or this one show just did not pick you for a slot for whatever reason. It is not like some huge judgement about YOU but about this one particular process with this one particular place and if you fit what they were looking for and even then, some luck because too many have the talent for the slots available.

I've seen wonderfully talented kids who go to UMich who got rejected at other BFA programs or didn't get cast for some other auditions. It just goes with this territory. Even the most talented people, yourself included, can't get them all.

Keep your eye on the goal.
Susan

I'm still waiting on letters from NYU, CCM, and BoCo (although BoCo accepted me on the spot at my audition, pending a review of my transcripts.) I'm 95% sure I'll get into NYU, and CCM is a crapshoot, but I doubt I'll get in there if I didn't get into Michigan - I'm not being despairing here, just realistic. :)

Really, I appreciate all the nice things you guys are saying. I promise I'm not sad about this AT ALL. :) You don't have to worry about me! :)

Hi,
I am a new member. I auditioned in Chicago for UM on Feb 7th but i havent heard anything. Those of you would got a letter (either acceptance or rejection) when did u have your audition. When should i expect to hear? i am getting very anxious!

A few more questions:
How is the Michigan regular theater compare it the Musical theater? Is it worth going there?
How do UM and NYU compare?
Thanks!

Just want to add my regrets at not being accepted to your #1 Samia. It certainly sounds as if those who have heard you sing, think you are wonderful, and I am sure you are. It also goes to show others receiving rejections that you can be VERY talented and still just not be right for the show (college.) Don't despair, you are in good company and there will always be a show (college) that needs someone JUST LIKE YOU! Keep shopping :) (yes for cute outfits, too!)

So much talent for so few slots. Whereas you weren't "accepted" you weren't likely "rejected." May seem like the same thing, but it really isn't. You'll end up someplace wonderful, I'm sure.

Samia, I agree with everyone else. My d auditioned the week after you and there were 63 other hopefuls with her on that day alone. The numbers at U of M are daunting...and remember that there are so many factors that go into the decisions that are being made to invite or not to invite...and whether the auditors think a student is a good "fit" in the program clearly goes to all kinds of intangibles in addition to the talent that any particular student has...after all, most of the students at these auditions have enough talent and drive to have entered into the MT competition...and it sounds like BOCO (at the very least) is a "go" for you. Not a bad situation to be in at all!

hey Samia,
i was just wondering when you auditoned for U Mich i am waiting for my rejection or acceptence letter and am getting really anxious. how long after you auditon did u hear?
Good luck with everything!

I auditioned Feb 3, and the letter came on March 2. :) Good luck to you!!!

Hey Samia,
Yeah I am still waiting. If I don't get in though, it seems like I will be in good company (judging from what every one has said about you) :)
Thanks for replying, good luck with everything else!!

HI! i cant decide!! Madison or Ann Arbor. i've been admitted to both and i'm confused now..

Hi Chand,

I see you have posted on other CC threads about this choice, but you should know that this thread deals specifically with students who have applied to UMich for Musical Theater so most will not have applied to Wisconsin so will not be prepared to compare many of the things that you are probably interested in.

As the Mom of a UMich student, I CAN tell you that Ann Arbor is a fabulous college town and I've never met a student or alum with unkind things to say about the time they spent there. If you go by standard college rankings, UM is a much more prestigious school than Wisconsin, arguably one of the top two state schools, along with CAL-Berkeley - in the US. Hope you get more help from others.

Oh, I'm sorry. But thanks for the advice anyways!

Hey Chaand,
I was accepted into U Mich theater as well, but I dont know much about it. I know that the Musical theater is really strong, but i havent heard about just straight theater. What have you heard about it??
Thanks!

I don't think Chaand meant to post on the MT Forum about U of Michigan. He/she is not a theater applicant, I believe, but is an applicant to the university itself.
