Hello. I applied to the University of Minnesota this year, and I'm worried about how vague the application requirements are.

The website has an application checklist, but I have a feeling the list is not all that's required. Does the Twin Cities campus require/accept letters of recommendation or essays? How about an art portfolio for the design campus?

I just really don't want to screw up my application and forget something.

Thus far, I've sent the form, the fee, my transcript and my latest ACT score.

Thanks!

My daughter applied two years ago and said it was an unbelievably easy application. (She went elsewhere). What you’ve sent seems to be what they require. I imagine that means it’s a “by-the-numbers” admissions process; if your grades and test scores are within the range they’re looking for, you’re probably in.

They say on the website they’ll notify you within 2 weeks that they’ve received your application, and they’ll notify you within 4 weeks if anything’s missing from your application. So I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’ve satisfied their checklist, you’re probably good, but if you’ve missed something, they’ll catch it in plenty of time for you to make it right. If you want to submit letters of recommendation or an art portfolio, why not call or e-mail the admissions office and ask if it’s OK or would be helpful. My guess is they just don’t have the staff to process all that stuff for tens of thousands of applicants.
