I want to go to medical school after college and am wondering which college would be better to attend, if it matters.
Can you explain the difference between majoring in Biology in CLA and CBS at the U of M? I know CLA would be a BA and CBS would be a BS, but would a degree in CBS look a lot more appealing to medical schools? CBS is definitely harder because it focuses more on science courses, but I’m worried that will ruin my GPA (CLA has some easier classes).
Does it matter a lot between these too colleges for medical school?
Which division has the major(s) you are interested in?
Pre-med can be done with any major, although you need to include the pre-med courses in your course selection. About half of medical school applicants are/were biological science majors as undergraduates, but that means that the other half were majors in something else.
CBS has a biology major B.S while CLA has a biology major in B.A. Not sure which one I want, I’m asking which would look better to medical schools
Medical Schools want a broad background, so it seems to me that the CLA option would be better.
Premeds need to take: 2 semesters each of English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, plus one semester each of organic chemistry, biochemistry, calculus, statistics, sociology, psychology, possibly neuroscience, and if possible fluency in a language spoken by an immigrant group (most people will pick Spanish, but French Creole, Portuguese, Hmong, Ukrainian, or Arabic, would likely be appreciated.)
