University of Minnesota vs Iowa State

I am a minnesota senior and have been accepted to both schools, but am having trouble deciding between them. Throughout high school I planned on going to UMN as it is an amazing school with great academics and a multitude of activities, as well as the many connections I have through friends and family. I feel at home there. On the other hand Iowa State offered me a full tuition scholarship (not room and board) and I am being encouraged by nearly everyone I ask (parents, councelors etc) that Iowa State is the best option in order to keep my debt low, especially because I plan on going to medical school in the future. Personally, I would much rather go to UMN, but is it possible that Iowa’s offer is good to pass up? Especially with future costs of med school?

Iowa State: $0 tuition ($22,000 scholarship), $10,000 R&B
Minnesota: $28,000 total

ISU can get you ready for med school, no doubt about that. What GPA do you need to maintain to keep that scholarship?

Where would the 10k come from to pay for ISU, and where would the additional 18k come from to pay for UMN?

18 x 4 = 72k or basically the first year of med school.

What do you plan to major in? If you decide against med school at some point, what is your back-up plan?

Why did you apply to ISU in the first place?

The most you can take out for federal student loans is $27k for a 4 year degree. If your total debt doesn’t exceed that, then going to UMN would be fine. The debt costs would be manageable either way.
