If I went to the U of MN, I'd want to go on a pre-med track, but I'm also looking to minor in Chinese Language. Does anyone know the strength of Minnesota's Chinese program?

Also, since I'd very likely be in the Honors college, is there any difference between the program there and the typical program? Or would that only apply to my major?

Your honors program will be applied to your major, not your minor. Having said that, you can still take honor chinese courses that can be counted toward your overall honors program requirements.

Unfortunately, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities does not seem to have a strong Chinese program. My source is the Gourman Report.

If you are planning on pursuing a career in medicine, then your minor will have little value to gain admission. Only choose the minor because you enjoy it, not whether it is a strong program or not (I am not accusing you of doing this by the way . If you have anymore questions regarding the U of M feel free to let me know.

I wouldn’t be taking it to try to get into med school – I just enjoy the language and culture. I’m just hoping that I’ll be able to keep learning, because I’ll have taken 4 years of Chinese in high school. At a different (small, private) school I visited, they only offered 2 years of basic Chinese, which isn’t what I’m looking for. Thanks a lot!
