Extremely scary to see the amount of damage created by the multiple explosions in a dorm building. Luckily it appeared that there were no injuries or fatalities. Hopefully some safeguards are put in place to prevent from future occurrences. I know here in NJ, the Seton Hall dorm fire that killed several students changed the dorm landscape for the better. Every dorm room in NJ now has sprinkler system in it. As you make your tours, it’s important to look for safety items. Sprinkler heads, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, etc…
These explosions occurred in a boiler room, so it’s unlikely a tour group would’ve been able to look for safety items that would’ve prevented this. As a UNR student, I’m more concerned about what the university will do. The damage has rendered about half their housing and the only dining hall on campus unusable, with only 40 days until move-in. I’m very grateful the buildings were mostly empty due to the holiday weekend and an informal pre-evacuation.
